Stockings for Toddlers

What does everyone put in their toddlers' Christmas stocking? I have lots of ideas for preteens (even though I have none!) But I am really struggling with DS 3 outside of small plastic tat and chocolate, which I don't particularly want to load up on either. So far he has:

Chocolate coins
Chocolate reindeer
Magic colouring pens
Couple of hot wheels cars

We’ve got Thomas the Tank Engine bubble bath, one of those flannels you put in water and it expands, some bouncy balls, some pots of play dough, some Spider-Man bubbles, a magnifying glass, a harmonica, a selection box, a couple of mystery eggs with Spider-Man characters in them, some socks, a box of crayons, a woolly hat and loads of other little bits that I’ve lost track of and are too small to wrap.

SquigglePigs · 10/11/2024 19:51

Fluffy Christmas or character slipper socks.

We have a tradition that there's always a cuddly toy in the top of the stocking so that can take up a chunk of space.

Could you get funky colour changing bubble bath or something like that to take up a chunk of space?

A chunky wooden puzzle.

A ball (light up, glitter etc).

Gloves and/or hat

110APiccadilly · 10/11/2024 20:00

Shaped bath sponge

Little pack of pens, pencils or crayons, maybe with a notebook or small colouring book

Snap bracelet

If he already has anything like Brio, Duplo or Lego, you could get an engine/ figure/ car/ etc to go with that.

Depending how much you want to spend, an Orchard Toys mini game?

Vimaybe · 10/11/2024 20:19

Thank you, everyone! Lots of lovely ideas definitely will be grabbing a few of them silly toy in egg things from the supermarket and a few more simple bits. I'd love to go wild with the character bath bubbles because he'd love them, but his skin is incredibly sensitive.

I used to do little cars or ponies or whatever she was in to. Crayons, mr men books, little cuddly toy. Gold coins

TickingAlongNicely · 10/11/2024 20:26

When mine was that age, she got really upset at the stocking as the thing she had asked Santa for wasn't in the stocking... (it was downstairs). It was only a small thing (a set of magnetic numbers) so if he's asked for something small, I would put it in the stocking

Oh I loved those flannels as a kid, where did you get that from?

mumbruh · 12/11/2024 06:39

Sensitive skin as he's so young just buy simple brand shower gel and stick on themed stickers or print out a label for a bottle with his favourite character Ron, he'd be well impressed

I got this one from Pound Fun, but they’re a bit hit and miss about stock. Boots do them too, I think they’ve got a Frozen themed one at the moment.

Vimaybe · 12/11/2024 21:49

I've got some paint sticks today, we've used them before and he loves them. They're great for colouring large objects e.g cardboard forts etc and much cleaner than actual paint.

Stockings for us is usually the only time we really buy plastic stuff and we try to keep it practical :

DD3.5 is getting:
-Frozen Magazine & associated tat
-Frozen toothbrush
-Frozen plasters (she's asked for these!)
-Pot of yellow Playdough for her Tangled Playdough set

  • Gruffalo vests
-Mader Fly Agaric Spinning - - Turn-Over Top -Grapat Lucky Box -Lanka Kade dragon figure
MidnightPatrol · 12/11/2024 22:09

Good thread idea! Agreed on not buying lots of extra plastic…

  • Stickers
  • pyjamas
  • socks
  • bubble bath (also like expanding flannel idea so will try to find)
  • a metal spring
  • a light up bouncy ball
  • Some fruit (they love it so a good thing - I’ll wrap it up)
  • a hot wheels car
  • a couple of new Tonies
  • probably something paw patrol as that’s big at the moment

I’ve managed to keep them off sweets so far but I might put a tiny chocolate reindeer in.

I think that’s probably quite a lot for them already, and given it will feel like a first it will be very exciting to get even one gift in a stocking.

Onemorepenny · 12/11/2024 22:40

Great idea. I have on my list as follows:

  1. Something from Siku we don't already have on sale at Waterstones
  2. Gruffalo Tonie
  3. Chocolate or pack of biscuits
  4. Schleich animal or similar
  5. Christmas/Winter themed picture book
  6. Thick wool socks
  7. Pack of stickers
  8. Fruit
  9. Personalized Children's mug
10. Kids Telescope although this may be too big!
oneuponedown · 13/11/2024 19:57

Placemarking as there's some great ideas here :)

lochmaree · 13/11/2024 20:16

We have stuff from Rex London and also I am thinking of getting them (4 and 2yo) a little Sho flask with a coffee lid for hot chocolate etc as my youngest loves my one!

Barleysugar86 · 13/11/2024 20:21

My toddler loved his Kaleidoscope telescopes, Russian dolls, wind up walking toy/ music box, small steel drum, bouncy moon ball, and some schleich animal toys

TeenGreenBottles · 13/11/2024 20:28

Foamy soap.

You could buy a cheap novelty bubble bath and chuck out the contents, and fill the bottle with his usual bath stuff

When I say "chuck out" I mean decant the cheap stuff into a an old hand-wash bottle and use it for yourself by the kitchen sink or something
