Gift for inter railing

Dd and friend are going inter railing in Europe next year, both early 20s. We have contributed to ticket cost for birthday/Christmas and she is covering the rest. Any ideas for stocking filler bits to take with her? She has a great rucksack used for DofE trips.

Packing cubes have been a total game changer when we've interrailed. Easy to keep your different "categories" of clothes organised in a backpack

A couple of carabiners to hang things off the backpack when necessary?

Has she got a good bag/daypack for going out and about when she's in a place/wants to go on a hike/etc?

Also a really nice eye mask and some of those good earplugs for both night trains and hostels.

And I think power packs are still useful - we've had more than one night train where the power outlets weren't working....

Oh and a couple of good padlocks and other ways to keep her rucksack safe like a cable lock.

Great suggestions from PP! I would second the packing cubes and a power bank. Uniqlo cross body bag? Eye mask and ear plugs? If you're feeling very generous a one night stay in a nice hotel on their route would be very welcomed in my experience!

That last one is pure gold. In my much younger days I was interrailing through Eastern Europe with a friend, we roughed it through the Balkans and it was all amazing but a bit exhausting. We used our meagre savings for a couple of nights in a lovely hotel in Ljubljana and we felt like new people afterwards.

Agree with all the above suggestions! I also got DD and DS solar chargers which helped when travelling in sunny places with no power sockets!
Also a European usb plug which saves carrying bulky adapter plugs etc. obviously depends if they are taking straighteners/hair dryer!

With the padlock suggestion get a bike lock type thing so they can secure their back pack to the train luggage rack especially useful if they aren't sitting near their bags.

I got from Amazon a cable with 2 padlocks which we used for securing luggage when we couldn't keep it close by. Padlocks are also generally needed in hostels for lockers. 2nd powerbanks, EU USB plugs. One or 2 of those very lightweight travel towels that fold down to nothing. My dd swears by her Revolut card as you can move cash between currencies - useful if travelling e.g CZ, HU, PL etc. Daypack. Decent water bottle. Inflatable travel pillow.

Washing powder sheets- Dr Beckmann. These are light to carry and you can cut each one into quarters which are useful for washing a small amount in a sink.
Little travel washing line .
Small hamman or microfibre towel.
Little torch
Swiss army knife or small cutlery set
Little first aid kit, perhaps compeed plasters.
playing cards
Puzzle bk
light umbrella

Thank you so much for all the great suggestions! Shopping local first and will pick up the rest on Amazon.
