Does anyone else love a festive book in December?

My favourites are Sarah Morgan books for classic snow filled rom coms with a side of home baked shortbread, cosy fires and twinkly lights

I also very much enjoyed Adam Kay's nightshift before Christmas

I love a good murder mystery so any festive recommendations welcome!

Also interested in festive murder mysteries but no recommendations I'm afraid.

Have you read 'Skipping Christmas' by John Grisham? The film 'Christmas with the Cranks' is as based on it.

I love a cosy, festive chick-lit. My absolute favourites are from the Wynbridge series by Heidi Swain.
I've never read a festive murder mystery but it sounds like something I'd enjoy!

Hurdlin · 08/11/2024 10:29

Murder Under the Christmas Tree is a collection of festive murder mystery stories.

ChristmasSprinkles · 08/11/2024 10:30

Karen Swan does some good Christmas ones.
Shiver- Allie Reynolds
In a Holidaze - Christina Lauren
The hunting party - Lucy Foley

No I haven't, thank you!

For curl up, cheesy Christmas, anything by Sarah Morgan or Jenny Colgan is great.
For family drama set at Christmas, Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak is a good one, my book club did this a couple of years ago.
The Visitor by Zoe Miller is great, an easy thriller not with a focus of Christmas but clearly set at Christmas time with lots of mentions.
Dying For Christmas by Tammy Cohen or The Secret Santa by Trish Harnetiaix for a detective/murder festive feel.
Mystery in White by J Efferson for more Agatha Christie vibes.

Bobbyelvis4ever · 08/11/2024 19:28

The Shite Before Christmas is good - festive and funny!

haje · 08/11/2024 19:38

@Bobbyelvis4ever thank you that's on. 99p deal kindle so have ordered

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 08/11/2024 20:02

Love Jenny Colgan Christmas bookstore books but also just finished listening to Shite Before Christmas on audible and was so gutted when it finished! It has so many literal Laugh Out Loud moments, agree with Bobby, definitely festive and funny.

Maybe not quite what you are looking for, but The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett is great.

5foot5 · 09/11/2024 01:26

Trish Ashley has written sone very good Christmas books.

My absolute favourite, which I read every year, is The Twelve Days of Christmas

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 09/11/2024 01:29

If you have kids, the Jolly Christmas Postman.

Screw it, even if you don't have kids, it's brilliant.

Have you read Elly Griffiths? She writes crime stories and romance under her real name of Domenica de Rosa:

I am currently reading a book of short stories written under the Elly Griffiths pseudonym. There are lots of Christmas related stories. I've done the link to the hardback in case you want a book as a present to yourself or for someone else to give you but it's also published as a paperback or on Kindle:

I have also written novels under my real name.

Golly no wonder I was tired this Morning. I didn't realise I had stayed up so late last night

I came on this thread to mention Trisha Ashley books. My favorite is 12 Days of Christmas too. It's like a hot chocolate by the fire snuggled under a blanket in a book.

I read it every Christmas and usually at least once more during the year.

Christmaschristingle · 09/11/2024 21:47

Sophie kinsella shopaholic at Christmas is glorious

Kayemm · 09/11/2024 21:48

It's my pick for my book group in December and I'm picking this.

Deal: Hercule Poirot’s Silent Night: The New Hercule Poirot Mystery (A New Hercule Poirot Mystery) https://amzn.eu/d/9i5kiCQ

I also re-read it every year and I have a rule that I can't start it before November 18th!

I used to find that I lost track in the story on which date it is so a few years ago I sat down and worked it out chapter by chapter. I now have that printed off and use it as a bookmark.

I came on to recommend this one. Very funny, very festive and surprisingly touching too. Absolutely loved it.

Christmaschristingle · 09/11/2024 21:51

Peach it's brilliant isn't it and manages to incorporate lots of themes we all struggle with.

RhaenysRocks · 09/11/2024 22:38

One Last Christmas at the Castle is great, can't recall who it's by. Also there's a series about a village called Hope Christmas and all the characters are called Eve, Holly, Noel etc. I buy about 5 from charity shops every year. They're basically all pretty similar but guilty pleasure for sure.

RhaenysRocks · 10/11/2024 12:07

Ah thanks. I've bloody lost it!
