Christmas chocolates/sweets for the family that aren't the usual tubs and don't have loads of individual wrapping?

We've all gone off the tubs of Heroes/Celebrations/Quality Street etc. I also really hate the plastic tubs and the endless wrappers, although I'll grit my teeth for a few days over Christmas if I have to.

I have two tins of M and S Xmas munch which looks OK- metal tin and no wrap.

Anything else? I realise chocolates are hard not individually wrapped! Maybe a big box...

Buy an actual box of chocolate rather than a tin?

They are all quite small though, or hugely expensive. But yes I might do that if I can find a good one.

Make your own using bags of sweets? M&S do lots of bags of different sweets so you can get a Christmas tin and make your own mix.

More expensive would be to go to a chocolate shop and buy individual chocolates.

Or make your own truffles/christmas chocs/sweets. Nut brittle, fudge, coated nuts etc.

BTW I agree with you, we can't stand those tins the chocolate is 🤮.

Make your own chocolate truffles?

Meadowfinch · 07/11/2024 08:22

Make your own. Marzipan fruits, chocolate truffles, mint creams, strawberries dipped in plain chocolate. It isn't difficult. A bit time consuming but fun.

Why on earth hasn't this occurred to me before! Thanks this is what I'll do!

I love the idea of making things but I do so much cooking over Christmas that I need to farm out the chocolates.

Big box of seashells from Costco. I have bought two already which will should us all through to New Year (providing I can resist until Christmas Eve!)

M&S does a lot of packs thats not too expensive . Their Irish Cream liqueurs are about £4.50. They have a big range if you go look.

Do you have an old fashioned sweet shop near you? There’s one near me with jars of sweets that sell by weight. I get 100g of 4 or 5 things I know our family likes and put them in a biscuit tin I kept (one year I couldn’t find it so wrapped up a small cardboard box with a lid instead). It saves the last coffee cream or unpopular sweet being left in the box because no one wants it and it can be cheaper than getting a box/tub/bags from the supermarket.

M&S always do lovely Belgium truffles.

Lidl do bags of chocolates that taste amazing, you get 10 ish in a bag and they do several flavours. Sometimes we buy a box of hotel chocolates if there an offer on (Black Friday). We are fed up with the tins of individually wrapped chocolates too, though I’m partial to lindor balls.
