Really low cost gift ideas

SalVallay · 07/11/2024 07:28

Dd is 13 and has asked for two things for Christmas. They total £300 so that is the budget gone. She has siblings who will have more gifts to open as they are younger / want cheaper items. I would like to get her some very low cost items that she can open.

I'm struggling to think of anything. I'm thinking I could add £30 and see if I can get 5 items. Any ideas would be very helpful.

i’d get two really nice skin care products for my same age daughter (she loves skin care though!) rather than 5 things she’ll probably not have much use from

Flustration · 07/11/2024 07:38

What is she into?

My 14yo DD would be happy to open any of the following:

  • Photo book with pictures from her childhood (you should be able to find an offer where you just pay the postage if you shop around)
  • Copy of Vogue from the year she was born - don't ask me why, it's a TikTok thing apparently! Check eBay. Price varies but under £10.
  • Mini karaoke machine. She recently bought one of these for a friend and they loved it. I'll link to it on Amazon but if you search on Temu/TikTok shop/etc you can find them for around £6 https://amzn.eu/d/dUD1Oa2

Let me know if I'm on the right track and I'll see if I can think of some more.

I'd go round home bargains and buy bits and pieces so she has more parcels too.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 07/11/2024 07:40

Things like fun international snacks can be popular at that age and are relatively inexpensive.

Or those cheap gift boxes of shower gels etc if you know which ones are her fave!

A nice new water bottle?

Any books she might want?

PeachPumpkin · 07/11/2024 07:42

Selection box? I’ll have a think.

Flustration · 07/11/2024 07:42

I'm not sure why MN has hidden my post! I'll try again without the links...

Mini karaoke machine. DD bough this for a friend's 15th bday and they loved it. They are around £6 if you shop around on Temu or TikTik shop etc.

I second Hone bargains for little festive things e.g socks, bath sponge.
Superdrug is good too for face and foot masks.

Fabulous suggestions @Flustration!! I’m mid 40s and now want a mini karaoke machine and a copy of Vogue from 1979 😂

They do have to learn that if they ask for more expensive things, then they get less to open on Christmas Day, but I do understand where you're coming from.

The 'want, need, wear, read' saying is good for ensuring a mix.
'Want' you have covered.
'Need' - anything she's got that needs replacing/upgrading eg pencil case/pens/ lamp for her room - just have a look around her room for ideas. Or shower gel/cleanser if she uses that sort of thing.
'Wear' - pyjamas/jumper/top (I'd go for another 'need' here so you're buying something you'd be buying in the next couple of months anyway)
'Read' - a book obviously

I've seen 'something to do' added to this list, you could add a little craft set if that's her thing or make a snack pack of eg popcorn, Pringles, drink and a voucher to choose a film to watch on the TV over Christmas.
