Timings for children's christmas lunch/dinner?

Hi everyone,

I'm organising a Christmas lunch/dinner for my children and their friends in mid-December and would love some advice on timing.

I'm deciding between two options for the invite:

  • Option 1: Arrive at 11am, with lunch served around 12:30pm.
  • Option 2: Arrive at 2:30pm, with dinner served around 5:00pm.

Edit children ages between 6 and 8

Which time would you prefer for a children’s Christmas lunch? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Option 1 for lunch.

4pm would be too late for lunch normally (unless it’s actually Christmas Day).

Makes sense - I've updated option two. I wonder if people prefer I did lunch or dinner? 😊

I'd 100% go for option one, I think those timings would be perfect for a children's Christmas lunch!

Now you've changed the second option to 5pm, I'd say either is realistic.
So, go forcwhatevercsuits you best.

4 would be too early, and you'd risk noone being hungry!

WhatNoRaisins · 31/10/2024 16:00

I'd go for option 1 but at 6 and 8 I think you'd get away with either. If they were say 2 and 4 I wouldn't even contemplate option 2.

InTheRainOnATrain · 31/10/2024 16:01

Either is fine for those ages. Do whatever suits you best!

kudpmo · 31/10/2024 16:16

Thanks everyone for the responses! I'm going for the early slot :)

I’d invite them for mocktails at 12, lunch at 12.30 and carriages home at 2 😂

Option 1 - Kids are always way happier in the morning, and it gives you time to tidy up / collapse after!

I used to host a Christmas lunch for dcs and there cousins. Always option 1, and lots of Christmas craft stuff to do.

We do the latter. Lunch is normally served around noon. We're talking things like canapes, cheese & crackers and tomato and pepper soup.

Then we watch films until dinner, starters are about half an hour before the main course and wee tend to get down from the table about 6 pm and that's it for food for the day. Just after dinner drinks (posh fruit juice for the kids )
