Presenting gifts which are too big to wrap

What's your strategy for presenting really big presents?

I remember when I was six or seven, after I had opened my smaller presents, I was blindfolded and led outside. I had to feel something rough and rubbery, but I didn't guess what it was, so I then heard a clicking sound; I guessed it was a bike, and I had to give it a good feel: I was told I would be allowed to see when I had found and sounded the bell, which I did with some help.

If it can go in the living room, it sits with the others, just not wrapped. If it's too big for the living room (eg a trampoline or something!) I'd tie a piece of string to it, and put the other end of the string into the stocking with a note saying "follow the string".

My kids would hate being blindfolded, though, so that wouldn't work for us!

This sounds SO exciting. Stealing for our 'big gift' this year! 😍

Just bin bags for us I'm afraid. Or if really big a sheet or blanket with a bow added.

One year we had bikes behind the patio curtains.

Should have been a giveaway really as my dad NEVER had curtains closed and lights on during daylight 😂😂

We did a bike one year and put a ribbon on it and then covered the lounge door with wrapping paper so my son had to run through it.
He still talks about it 7 years later, he loved it.

If you do it I'd advise making sure you have everything you need in/out of the room before you wrap the door (unlike me)

We gave dd a massive sheepskin rug when she was 8 or 9. Dh carried her into her room with her eyes shut and laid her on the rug. She was in utter heaven! She got her pillow and quilt down from the bed and slept on that rug for the rest of the school holidays 😄

We made a treasure hunt for bikes one year. Led them all around the house with the next clue attached to a fun sized chocolate bar. Ended up in the garage where the bikes were waiting with a big bow attached.

Some years ago I hid an Ikea play kitchen behind the full length living room curtains. Hid it so well, and with all the hubbub, completely forgot about it. Think it was either later that night, or the next day, that i had an 'Oh shit, the kitchen!' moment.

We had a big bike bag we used for over 10 years for anything big such as bikes, pool table, weights, huge bean bags, TV etc.

When DD was 4 we got her a swing. We assembled it after she had gone to bed then put it in the back garden and secured it to the ground. Getting out of the patio doors was fun. Once it was in place I tied a big ribbon round it with a huge bow.

The next day we got her to look out of her bedroom window....

Lovely ideas. I especially like @Aparecium 's sheepskin rug idea. Someone in my class told me that she was blindfolded, driven somewhere (actually back to her house), and put inside her garden playhouse, with the door closed, and told to take her blindfold off, so that she would find herself in the house; then open the door, and see it was in her own garden.
