It's that time of year again when I struggle to think of anything for DH for his birthday and Christmas. I've got some fantastic ideas from these threads in the past.

What are you buying the men in your life?
Links would be fab.

Men are so hard to buy for. Other than the boring clothes, after shaves etc.... Does he have any hobbies?
My partner is a biker. I had him a miniature replica of his bike made. I had to send photos etc, but it's great and he was so happy with it.

Commonsense22 · 26/10/2024 13:12

Experiences like tickets to events, vouchers for go karting or something like it.
If not, some personalised man thing like a key ring, leather wallet etc
My DH is always partial to branded items so a polo shirt, sportswear etc

If you have a big budget, a galaxy watch 7. Or equivalent.

Forgottenmyphone · 26/10/2024 13:17

Last year was a pizza oven. This year it's a golf bag, Molten Brown and probably some craft beer!

NPET · 26/10/2024 13:24

Well I may as well play along with my mates and say "I'm with a different man every Christmas"!, so I always get them vouchers - either bought ones or ones I've made myself for "one meal with me" etc.

TheBeesKnee · 26/10/2024 13:27

What's the budget? I'm going to throw Ray Bans into the mix of suggestions.

DelphiniumBlue · 26/10/2024 13:28

Depends on the man- my sons 24-32 like Chris Packham T-shirts and hoodies- can’t do link right now . Great for those who like non- branded stuff. DH is 60s and likes shirts and jumpers from White Stuff and Fatface, but wouldn’t wear a hoody or T-shirt.
Hobby related stuff - DS likes cooking so gadgets, unusual ingredients or containers work for him. Books for those who read, upgraded headphones for all, also power banks pocket size or bigger. L’Occitaine toiletries and shaving stuff for DH.
Its quite hard actually not get sucked in to buying ‘ plastic tat’ just for something to open.
People earning their own money can buy what they like, so it does make present giving more of a challenge.

AhBiscuits · 26/10/2024 14:51

We both are guilty of just buying anything we want, leaving little scope for gifts. He loves sunglasses and has loads, including ray bans. With clothes he's super fussy, he returns 90% of what he buys because there will be some tiny detail he decides he doesn't like. I have no chance. He doesn't read books. He likes all sport, especially F1 and football. I've bought him a track day at Silverstone before. Last year I got him a lego maclaren, which he really liked.

For my adult sons this year I've got -
A shield boss replica (don't ask, he's a history buff...)
Penhaligons toiletries
A boot drier (they've just got a dog)
Photo printer so can print photos direct from phone
Food hamper of the most obscure foods I could find
A gorgeous printed throw (sofa snuggler)

Any good?

PureBoggin · 26/10/2024 15:09

If you both buy yourselves what you want and need, how about you agree your gift to each other will be a christmassy weekend away. Maybe to the Christmas Markets, theatre, dinner and hotel stay in Edinburgh or somewhere further afield.

A photo printer could work.
He does like tech.

Adult man here, and sorry we're such a nightmare to buy for! I'm guilty like your husband of just buying things I need when I need them rather than hanging on for a birthday, and all previous default presents like CDs, Dvds etc have been rendered useless by Spotify etc.

DP managed to outdo herself this year though. I love building Lego, but don't really have the space to keep it built afterwards, and can't justify the price any more. DP found a company called Brickborrow, that works like old school Netflix when they sent out DVDs. Pick a Lego set, they send it to you. You build it, keep forgetting a few days then disassemble it and send it back. It's about £15 a month and I get through 2 or 3 big sets a month on average.

kikisparks · 26/10/2024 21:17

DH is quite hard, doesn’t like Lego, doesn’t drink, doesn’t like any collectibles/ “stuff”, wouldn’t want to print photos, watches his diet so food not really wanted, doesn’t care about brands, wouldn’t want a personalised thing, hobby is going to the gym…

He does love Starbucks but not home coffee, so usually get a voucher, aftershave but this year he already bought himself some, he likes “muscle fit” tees so often get one of those and he likes smart home tech, gaming and apple products so have bought things from that in the past but that’s usually when I was spending 100s, now trying to limit it to about £30-50 which is hard.

Baggsy5 · 01/12/2024 21:09

Husband and a few other friends love fishing so a national fishing voucher

Seeing the thread title and tempted to ask if they don’t take a lot of wrapping paper, also struggle a bit when you sellotape them? 🙂

LilyJessie · 01/12/2024 22:38

I got mine apple air pods and a protective leather case personalised with his initials off Etsy.
The standard pants and socks he likes.
A keyring (first one as a dad that says "daddy".
And the chocolate I get him every year he likes!

LushLemonTart · 15/12/2024 12:51

Any more ideas? Am struggling with dss. Dh and I aren't bothering much. We tend to like spending on trips away.

Soccermumamir · 15/12/2024 20:33

Me and OH get something between us as we prefer it 🙂 My first ds is 18 and has asked for a Hugo Boss sports watch, Hugo Boss aftershave and band t shirts (we go to a lot of gigs). I've also just bought him an electric razor as he's been using his dad's, so he'll have his own now lol 😆

AhBiscuits · 16/12/2024 07:18

I bought him a lap tray for laptop and mouse as he tends to WFH from the sofa.
A giant Toblerone
Coffee pods
Bottles of Espresso martini and pornstar martini.

It all feels a bit shit tbh. It was his birthday last month and I got him some Lando Norris Sungod sun glasses, chocolates and a 'manstuff' cosmetics advent calendar. He didn't seem overly impressed.

OP posts:
AhBiscuits · 16/12/2024 07:33

Adding some socks and a neck warmer.

AnneButNotHathaway · 16/12/2024 07:44

If he likes tech, could you get him a subscription or two to some useful program(s)? Like a video enhancement software or a good photo editor or an audio editing program, etc?

hennybeans · 16/12/2024 08:40

Dh is getting a new wool coat, smarter than his usual puffer to wear in office days

2 le creuset mugs for coffee at home, with nice coffee

chocolate

Favourite Whiskey

Converse

A switch game he wanted

Pair of Levi's

Socks

A few bottles of EDT

Now ds 17 is much harder to buy for as he is really rather straightforward and doesn't want/ need much. He is getting:

Random flavours of pot noodles
Joggers and hoodies in hard to find tall sizes
Pen knife to take for uni
Nice razor
Big jar of Nutella
Toiletry bag and shower shoes for uni
Cash /driving lessons
