Ideas for my 16 year old teenage son please!

This Christmas is proving the most difficult for me with thinking what to buy my 16 year old son. I have usually got a few ideas and bought a few things already, but there is nothing he wants or needs for Christmas! He really struggled to choose anything for his birthday recently and I ended up getting him an outdoor activity experience day and a pile of books.

My son is non-sporty and doesn’t care for clothes in the slightest. He has a PC from last Christmas and still has unused Steam Vouchers from his birthday.
He doesn’t want a watch or a new television. He had an iPad that is only a couple of years old. His aftershave sits in his room untouched! He is not fussed about money as he never really spends anything except for going out to for dinner with his friends and has vouchers for the restaurant from his birthday from family.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Yes to this. I have one and at family gatherings the teens love it.

Remmy123 · 26/10/2024 07:52

Teen boys
He wants a stone island jumper which will cost a bit I'm sure!
football boots
Electric razor
boxers
aftershave
new AirPods
money
new electric toothbrush
football gloves

I don't buy too much stocking fillers because they don't appreciate it!!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/10/2024 07:59

Your DS just like mine!

He's had a couple of Young Driver experiences.
Random Asian snacks seem to go down well - checkout Asian supermarkets, or Kenji

I suspect his Christmas presents will be mostly edible this year.

ILoveAnnaQuay · 26/10/2024 08:03

When DS was 15 we bought him an "experience" at Mercedes World which included an hour driving a 4×4. He loved it. Would that be an option?

CoffeeChocolateWine · 26/10/2024 08:26

Feeling quite thankful that my DS is quite easy to buy for and has lots of hobbies! He's also sent me a list for both his birthday next month and Christmas.

He's already had a couple of things early, such as the FIFA games for his PC and an annual pass to a local theme park. Other things spread across both are...
Football boots
Mystery football shirt
Gaming mouse
Extra large gaming mouse mat
Classic analogue wrist watch
Aftershave
Ear buds
Silver neckchain
Golf lessons
History book (coffee table style)

Other general ideas...
Mini fridge
Dart board
Pool table (would so love to do this as I love pool too but don't have the space at the moment!
Clothes/JD vouchers
Trainers
Slipper
Oodie
Cash
V8 engine model kit
Chess board
Games
Books
Coverless duvet
Waffle maker
Smoothie maker
Soda stream
Experience
Skincare stuff
Sweets/snacks/chocolate

Have a 15 year old son so joining the chat.
He wants a dressing gown but not fleecey, might get a game for his switch

WorldMap24 · 26/10/2024 08:30

Ds this year has asked for earphones and that's it! He's planning on buying himself a new PlayStation. Other things I've thought of are:

Tassimo machine for his room with pods
Novelty socks with photos of our dog
His favourite chocolate is pistachio lindt which can be hard to get hold of in normal shops
European scratch map
Word of the day calendar
Headset stand
Trainers

Mummydoctor · 26/10/2024 08:51

Ideas we have at the moment: (the first few suggested by eldest, next few by youngest teen)
aftershave
brow razor
jewellery - gold chain
Ralph Lauren pants
Nike trainers
bose earphones
laptop (this will be for a birthday not Xmas)
driving experience
Chocolate - giant toblerone , Lindt
Gym wear - Gymshark t shirt/shorts, sweat towel
Swim related (competitive swimmers) - race trunks, new funky trunks, new mesh bag, new swim back pack. Variety pack protein powders. New protein shaker.

These suggestions are really helpful, thank you 😊

My son has AirPods which he uses daily. I’ve thought about getting him some comfy headphones so that could be something.

He has a mini fridge which he doesn’t put on very often. That could be as I never buy fizzy drinks so he has nothing to put in it!

The Go Edge Cube might be something he likes but can’t really justify £75 for something he might use once. I’ve put a tracker on camel camel camel to see if it drops £20!

Its a difficult age and even more so when they aren’t into many things!

Well a slab of his favourite drink would probably go down well.

Those little metal balls you put on your desk and set one off and it hits against the others

This is called a Newton's cradle, for anyone who is trying to buy one!

mamabluestar · 05/11/2024 15:26

Bumping this up!! I love the fact that my DC aren't in the slightest materialistic but jeez it makes buying gifts difficult!

ThisZippyDenimGoose · 05/11/2024 19:40

A gaming chair for the pc? Doesn’t sound very exciting but my ds loves his!

Our Tesco and Asda have the pistachio Lindt. I bought a few boxes last week and may have literally just opened one to yesterday them!

Does he have a gaming chair?

BearSoFair · 06/11/2024 17:56

Beaten to my GoCube suggestion in the second reply! So now I'm here looking at everyone else for inspiration too

Posted before seeing OP had already replied - but OP I got it for £55 during Amazon's Prime Deals so it may drop again for Black Friday!

My son has just bought a cheap ish drone and is loving it. But it may well turn out to be gimmicky. Think it was around 150. It does seem quite cool.

Does he have a gaming chair?

He did have one, but found that he couldn’t get close enough to his desk, so he has an office style chair now which he finds better for him.

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions.

I hope you don’t mind a little hijack OP, but as this thread is full of people with ideas for teen boys, if anyone has any recommendations for somewhere to buy silver rings for teenage boys, I’d be very grateful for any suggestions on my thread here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5206494-silver-ringsjewellery-brands-for-teen-boy?reply=139713031

Silver rings/jewellery brands for teen boy | Mumsnet

I’m on the search for a silver ring for DS 16, he has some cheap ones from a high street store but I’d like to get him one that’s a bit better quality...

sashh · 11/11/2024 04:44

Can yo u get to Birmingham OP? You will find something in the Jewellery quarter. Or if you don't you will find someone who can make one.

Slightly above your budget but for £65 he could make his own.

How about a cinema subscription as he only needs to attends twice a month to male ot worthwhile. Going to the cinema is such a treat and expensive nowadays that it'll male a good practical gift.

orchid81 · 11/11/2024 06:07

Gaming headphones, does he want to upgrade any parts of his gaming pc, another monitor, podcaster type microphone? (Just going by what my ds24 and ds19 have!)

northernsouldownsouth · 11/11/2024 06:16

My DS started to really get into board games at that age. He would invite his friends round for gaming nights and pizza. He's recently left for his first year of Uni and took lots of board games with him - so it continues- and it's actually been a great way for him to spend time with his new friends
