Can anyone help ?
This year I’m really struggling with buying gifts for people (money isn’t an issue) I’m just struggling to find gifts suitable for people.
I’ll have a 6 month old daughter when Christmas comes around and I honestly don’t even know where to start with getting her gifts - I know she won’t understand Christmas but with it being her first I want to make it special.
I also have an 11 year old nephew who is impossible to buy for - he isn’t into any sports, TV shows, music or anything that a normal 11 year old would be into. Every year I seem to just buy him clothes but I’ve found I never actually see him in the clothes that I buy him.
Normally I love Christmas but this year I just don’t seem to be in the mood for it 🤦🏼‍♀️

At 6months baby won’t know what’s going on so make the most of saving your money for future xmasses. I would opt for something that will come in handy such as a soft play membership and some sensory toys or something for the garden for the summer. For your nephew, what is he into? Could his parents give any suggestions?x

I haven’t gone mental with my daughter we’ve just bought her mainly clothes & then toys that she’ll be using over the next year to help her - ie a walker, and sensory toys.. I’ve asked my sister & her partner what I can get my beige & even they are struggling. He isn’t into anything like sports, music or TV shows so it’s really hard to buy for him

What IS he into ?

Scutterbug · 21/10/2024 23:23

Would he like LED lights for his bedroom?

TheRainItRaineth · 21/10/2024 23:23

For your nephew, I'd honestly suggest some cash and a box of chocolates. Or a gift token for a shop he likes? Buy your baby things she needs and will use and some books.

He isn’t into much, he has a PlayStation which he rarely plays on and when I suggested buying something for him PlayStation based his parents told me not too bother.

He shares a room with his older brother who’s really into LED lights so I’ve bought him some so don’t want to be replicating everything 🤦🏼‍♀️

For my baby I’ve just bought her clothes for the next size (or the size she’ll be around Christmas) and then bought her stuff like her first plate and cutlery as around that time I’ll have stared weaning her and then toys that will help her development like a walker.

Would spending money with a note saying "please treat yourself to something, and let me know what you choose" work?

Or vouchers for cinema etc?

Sounds very random...but a Greg's voucher once went down very well with a friend's son! 😅

And no wonder you're not in the mood...you've got your hands full this year!

i'd go easiest route so get everyone something similar like hampers (M&S do family hampers...you could get one for your inlaws and nephews to share) Couple of clicks and presents sorted and delivered.

Tween / teen boys are so hard to buy for. I really really miss actual media stuff, CDs, Blu-Rays etc.

A voucher for Spotify or something. Lego?
Ask him/ his parents for ideas
Or money boring but at least it will be used

Each year it always seems to get harder to buy for people & this year I’ve got extra people to buy for. I normally just go down the chocolate route and buy a tin of chocolates for the family 😂

I honestly have hated buying for teen boys.
he doesn’t listen to Spotify & he isn’t into Lego so that’s a big no there.
ive asked his parents for ideas & even they are stuck.
id give him money if i knew he’d spend it on something other than sweets and crap which he’s got a bad idea of doing & I’ve bought his siblings things to open and would feel bad just giving him money in a card.

Could you take your nephew for a day/evening/afternoon out? Cinema and pizza or something?

My nieces/nephews love getting 1:1 time with an adult.

Possibly. I would just rather he had stuff to open on Christmas Day so that it doesn’t show like I have favourites if that makes sense.

Does he read?
Any sort of tech? Headphones, speakers?

Christmas is still 2 months away. I'd Hang fire and wait and see if he comes up with any ideas.

One option is sweets with the money so it feels kind your handing over a gift rather than just an envelope

Ladyfelicityjane · 22/10/2024 02:33

My 12 year old DS is equally hard to buy for. Last year’s Christmas and birthday hits were a build your own pick n mix from Sweetzy.co.uk and an American snack gift box - easy gifts but it looks as though you’ve put a bit more thought into it

Dunk19 · 22/10/2024 06:51

It is a hard age to buy for. At that age my ds loved receiving an oodie type thing, junior aftershave (Next or Zara do them), American sweets, cosy socks, Guiness book of records, remote control sports car, lava lamp, fleece bedding.

Hth this helps and hope you're ok, things can all get a bit overwhelming with a baby in the mix too, what you've chosen for her sounds perfect.

Isntshelovely2024 · 22/10/2024 06:52

For a 6 month old I’d focus on toys she can grow with. For an 11 year old I’d do cash and vouchers with chocolates

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 22/10/2024 07:02

What about a mystery snack box? I've seen sweet/treat boxes from America/Japan and Turkey online. Tkmaxx has some stuff in that he might not have had before. I bought some marshmallows that had juice inside them last week, my teens really liked them.
