My DS is recently turned 3 & also getting magnatiles. He has 2 older siblings & we already have far too much stuff but this is something we were lacking!
Also got him a large ambulance with sound effects etc, pjs/ clothes, some books. And a Christmas Duplo set- already have lots of Duplo but means we can just add it to the collection rather than having to find a new place to store it!
May get a couple more bits but trying not to go too crazy as our house is full!

Can I ask the people getting Tonie boxes what the thinking behind them is? I have a 3 year old who loves stories but they seem hugely expensive (especially the Tonie story characters) compared to just reading him books or playing audiobooks in the car (much cheaper from audible).

What do you see yourself using it for, am I missing something? Happy to spend the money if it's worth it but just can't see it.

It's the characters and the ease of use. I agree with you they are expensive for what they are, but they are really simple for a toddler to use. They have various characters that you just put on the top and it automatically starts playing.

@Ketryne it’s the freedom to put it on themselves and pick what they want to listen to / change what is on when it suits them that swayed me. My relatives have one and my toddler makes a beeline for it everytime we visit.

also worth looking out for sale - I got mine reduced by around 15 pound and the tonies reduced by 2 pound but yes it is expensive.

My vehicle loving boy will be 2 and 9 months, he is getting:

Car tracks (hot wheels probably)

Train track accessories for wooden set he already has, also a battery powered train

Remote control car (mainly because his older sis is getting one but it really enjoyed another kids one!)

Guitar/ukulele

Jelly cat cuddly

I have done minimal shopping so far! I will probably add more like some clothes and books too.

Also to add already has magnetic tiles, yoto player, a balance bike and a scooter (both of which he can ride well)

@Ketryne I’m actually not getting tonies because a few people from a group I go to think that I’ve missed the boat as they think my 3 year old would outgrow it soon. We had a play with one of them at a play date last week and it is really easy to use, you just put the figure on top and off it goes. I can see how it would be brilliant for younger kids, but I can see it’s something my son would lose interest in quickly. It’s why we’re going for yoto, which looks pretty boring in comparison, but has content for and is marketed to older kids too, it has other functions too so we thought we might get more longevity from it. I’m not convinced he won’t get bored of that really quickly too though, especially as he can work the Alexa these days!

DS is 3 and has (so far) requested a bubble gun, little live pets (apparently the actually alive cats we have aren’t good enough), a 1001 different hot wheels sets and a lego hot dog truck (?)

The actually alive cats 🤣🤣🤣

My DS is 3 in Feb so trying to get my ideas flowing but also keep some back for his birthday. Also, if it hasn’t got wheels he isn’t interested.

Xmas :
speedtrack
hot wheels cars
scooter
washing up sink set so he can wash his cars
Magnatiles

his favourite toy atm is Vtech marble rush, he actually got this for his second birthday and he loves it!! amazing because it’s something you can add to over time.

Thanks, maybe I'll look at the Yoto. My boy can just about work the Alexa too. I do think he'd enjoy the stories and the control to add his own, but I'm worried he'd get through so many a day, I'd go bankrupt!

tangobravo · 21/10/2024 21:10

DS will be 2 next month. Between his bday and Christmas, he's getting (from us and our parents/siblings)

Play kitchen
Yoto player
Mr potato head
3 or 4 books
Car ramp thing that goes on furniture
Humming top
New dressing gown and slippers
Sticker book
Snow globe
Bath toy fishing game

Could he play with it at 2? It looks quite complicated

Definitely!
we’d build it with him but it held his interest for ages x

Love the ideas on this thread! My DS will be 2 & 9 months at Christmas and he's getting:

  • Two remote control tractors (main gift)
  • Kinetic sand construction site box
  • The Snail & the Whale and the Stickman books
  • Vehicle foam stickers
  • Kids safety knives for cooking
  • Tractor pyjamas x 2

He turns 3 in March and I was going to do the magnatiles & yoto player for his birthday.

If we win the lotto before either event I'd love to get him one of the electric ride on tractors he's been begging for - but they're so so pricey.

SeraUK · 14/12/2024 17:22

My son is 2.5 and I got him:

  • play tent.
  • cement mixer truck
  • little toy tractor

I like the magnatiles, but I can foresee they'd end up all over the house. Maybe next year.

idontknow1001 · 14/12/2024 17:28

my 2 year old is getting: bike with stabilisers, drum kit, dr set, hot wheels, magnatiles, play doh, colouring in things.
