Hi! DD is nearly 3. We have a DIY advent calendar for her - any ideas on suggestions? Each section is quite big actually! About 5x10cm.

Current ideas:
christmas chocolates
child lip balm
stickers
bluey figurines
Schleich animals
hair clips
toy jewellery.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Crayons

I’d just stick to pictures- cut
them out of old Christmas cards. You could make it so they make up a jigsaw puzzle that is only completed on the 24th.

Hobbycraft have got some fab craft kits. I've got my 4yo the clay snowman and the pom pom craft for her advent calendar, I think both were £2

Bath bomb
Hair bow
Tree decoration
Christmas socks/tights
Bracelet

Pictures to colour in, could do little cards to post to relatives.
Does she have duplo? If so eBay or vinted for more duplo people/animals.

Have a look on sostrene grene - they have some gorgeous bits and you could try the usual places like toys for a pound website

Tubs of playdoh and playdoh cutters

Forgottenmyphone · 17/10/2024 20:19

Bubble mixture

A couple of balloons.
A bouncy ball.
A favourite character soap, or bath bomb.
A rubber duck, or bath toy.

All of this will be very quickly discarded tbh and the fact you're struggling for ideas confirms this stuff isn't needed. What's wrong with an advent where you just open the little windows or a little chocolate one.

I used to put folded bits of paper with little activities in that we'd be doing anyway

Make paper chains
Make snow flakes
Make/write cards
Deliver cards to neighbours
Buy a tree
Decorate tree
Watch Christmas film (Muppet Christmas Carol)
Go for woodland walk to find pinecone
Go shopping for present for parent/grandparent/siblings
Make or just decorate gingerbread people
Tidy room/sort toys
Make rocky road
Go for walk to see lights
Go to see Father Christmas
Christmas eve - lay the table (they loved writing placecards)

Some days a bit of chocolate and once or twice a shiny pound coin.

I’m not struggling for ideas. I’m just asking if anyone has any other (better) ideas that I could use!

When we did these calendars we found it got quite expensive, but my DH had a habit of picking up shopkins which were popular at the time and putting these in. We then went from 2 to 3 children so stopped using them.

Some things we did, other than the shopkins
Christmas chocolate, coins Santa shapes etc..
Christmas themed hair accessories
Christmas crafts
little toys like squishums, what ever they were collecting at the time
kinder eggs

Why do 24 presents to count down to a day when she is going to get more presents?
It is all just too much!

I don’t think it’s too much. The calendar will end up being £40 max. Lots of the items are multipacks that will be split up and some days will just be a chocolate Santa/chocolate coin.

Lots of people buy the Lego/happyland/duplo calendars which are always £25+.
