Barbie Dreamhouse, any good?

This is apparently top of DD's list. The size of it is a bit off putting but I remember a friend having a Sindy house when I was a child and I thought it was the greatest thing ever! If you have a Dreamhouse is it any good?

My niece has one. I think ‘good’ is very subjective. It’s massive, it’s garish, it’s eye wateringly expensive for what it is, and I’m fairly sure they bring new houses out with just the tiniest detail changed, just to emotionally blackmail parents into buying the most expensive version.

BUT, the look of sheer joy on her face when she came down on Christmas morning was worth all of that. She loves it.

We have the new one-it is big, very big!! It's an awkward shape but she loves it, played with everyday and for the short few years she will love it it's def worth it

My daughter absolutely loves hers! What I would say is no need to buy one brand new, ours was second hand for a fraction of the price and my daughter still adores it. Yes it is massive though and takes up a lot of room. My daughter (4) does play with it a lot but I would prob be disappointed if I had paid full price for one. Not sure how long they get out of it, we got it off a wee girl who was six and had outgrown it

My daughter got hers at age 6 and loved it. It’s still going strong now aged 9 although this might be the last year of it. It’s stupidly big and expensive but has been so worth it as she has loved it and played with most days

My DD27 had whatever the 20 years ago version was and absolutely loved it. Definitely worth it!

I think this might sum it up perfectly 😂 I think it's a bit pink (expensive) monstrosity but might be worth it just to see her face. Thanks for the feedback all!

I was thinking of buying my DD this one, a fraction of the price

spottydinosaur · 16/10/2024 18:42

Got one for a birthday last November & sold it in sold it in September.

It is huge! Put half her wardrobe out of action!

But the joy when she got it was just about worth it 😂

Doughdog · 16/10/2024 18:44

I'm afraid I disagree. It was a gift to my then 6 year old and she did indeed love it on Christmas morning but less so the following week when bits snapped off. It is so flimsy and couldn't withstand loads of playing with. Maybe my daughter is rough with stuff - but the joy did not last long enough to warrant the price.

matilda1077 · 16/10/2024 18:58

Bought one for our DD last Xmas and sold it by summer - she hardly played with it and it was massively in the way & awkwardly shaped so doesn't sit flush anywhere to put it away. So many tiny bits for it and most got lost within the first day! She has the smaller version now and plays with it far more, and I'm not sent skating across the room on a tiny pool float or taking a giant slide to the ankle anymore😂 never again - far better quality doll houses out there for cheaper

We have the 60th celebration version, which is a bit less pink. Dd has played with it most days and absolutely loves it. I managed to get a really good offer on Amazon last year, but it has been worth every penny. If you put it in your basket it usually drops at some point. It also came with a Barbie car, 2 Barbies and loads of accessories.

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 16/10/2024 20:17

Oh, also, our version is L shaped so fits neatly by the wall in a corner.

Got my eldest one for Christmas 2022 and her and her younger sister play with it at least every other day. Definitely no regrets!

Try your local FB market place, I picked the house, camper van and ambulance up for £10.00 each. All in great condition and I'll sell them on when she finishes playing with them.
