* Light hearted * - Overthinking the wrapping paper for Santa gifts

Help me decide the future of my children's Santa gift wrap as I cannot decide aha. Now my 2.5 year old is getting to an age of knowing Santa I wanted to pick the way I do Santa gifts for the rest of his (and subsequent siblings) childhood. Do I:

  1. Wrap in brown/green/red Kraft paper every year and a gold 'from the workshop' stamp so its exactly the same paper each year. But means i'll refrain from using these on other peoples gifts.
  2. Each year buy a different wrapping paper for each child but make sure that the design is always Santa focused, again with a gold 'from the workshop stamp'. So not the same paper but same design.

It literally doesn't matter but cant decide aha, so why not have a light hearted poll.

When other people give gifts to your children, do they ever use Kraft paper?

Smartiepants79 · 10/10/2024 13:19

I always had a specific Santa paper for each child. Different so I could keep track of whose was whose. That paper was only used for Santa gifts.

GuffyTheDustBuster · 10/10/2024 13:26

In our house presents from Santa are the small ones that go in a stocking to keep them entertained until proper present opening after lunch. They are different paper from the presents under the tree from us (darned if Santa was getting credit for an x box).

Each child's Santa's paper is different (but we never worried about the same paper year on year). To date they have not mentioned the change of paper.

Ful disclosure DC are now 24 and 22 - but DH still loves doing it (and gf /bf's get one if they're staying at ours 😁)

HappyAsASandboy · 10/10/2024 13:29

I always use red/white/green striped paper, but it is slightly different hear to year.

In my house only stockings are from Santa. All children get the same paper.

Lavenderandbrown · 10/10/2024 13:36

I would go with the stamp. Paper is fun to pick out and their favorite colors characters will change over the years. I always used one paper style per child and didn’t use this apart for anyone else. And I didn’t keep any unused paper. I still love gift wrapping.

backawayfatty1 · 10/10/2024 13:39

Santa always brought one present to our house, from the list, left under the tree. He has his own special Santa design, different each year (thanks IKEA). I wrapped our presents in different paper for each child - no tags needed!

Spirael · 10/10/2024 13:40

I go for coloured kraft paper as it's easy to obtain year after year. Each child is assigned a different colour, that matches their stocking, so I can easily see which presents belong to who after I've had a few drinks on Christmas Eve!

"Lighthearted"

Really.

Chimbos · 10/10/2024 13:44

I pick a Santa paper every year for everyone and write an initial on it. I try to use a generic one like red and white stripes. I used a Brussel sprout one one year and DD(4yo) noticed it in a cupboard a few months after Christmas and remarked that Santa must have been to our house and wrapped the presents there 🙈

Oh I'm sorry - it's incredibly detrimental to my life and my childrens cherished memories of Christmas.

If the wrong decision is made i'll implode and my life will be ruined..

Better?

I really want to separate the present opening to Santa (this year a toy kitchen and stocking) and 'mom/dad' and family gifts but my husband is adamant that's mean to make them wait.

I don't even think my parents changed the paper aha - I cant say I ever questioned it.

I'm giving Santa the credit for the big gift this year, but he's a toddler so wont care at all haha - when their main gifts get to xbox level i'll definitely be taking the credit!

They dont, but in past years i've used it and do enjoy matching kraft paper and patterned paper when gifting people 2 things

We wrap ours in what is available

Santander drops off the presents to us early so we can wrap them as he sometimes runs out of time

(They're older now, but it worked quite well)

Ah, I was going to say maybe go with the Kraft paper, just in case another gifter uses the same patterned paper as yourselves.
How about a mix of both? Santa themed paper with a special 'Santa's Workshop' tag?

Or you could still use Kraft paper for other people, just make the kids a bit more special? The gold stamp you mentioned, red/green velvet ribbon with a big bow, or dare I suggest, glitter 🫣

MrsForgetalot · 10/10/2024 14:10

I’m in love with the idea of Kraft paper and the gold stamp. Where’s the gold stamp from?

In our house we always had individualised wrapping paper from Santa so it was clear which gifts were for which child (following an unfortunate mix up in my own childhood 😂). Whatever the current obsession was appeared on the wrapping paper that year.

We separated Santa gifts from family gifts at my DH’s insistence too. I disagreed but I’m fully converted to the concept. It let them have a joyous, paper ripping, free for all in the morning. But later, the exchange was slower, more polite, and they were calmer and could take pleasure in the giving too.

That said, they’re adamantly clinging on to the tradition despite being far too old for Santa and getting more gifts than they would otherwise 🤣

Sepoctnov · 10/10/2024 14:20

Santa usually uses the cheapest Santa-themed paper the Elves can find at a bargain price, usually from somewhere like The Works.

This year I've asked Santa to back off a bit as he usually dominates the present giving. Much gossip amongst the elves but they're mostly relieved on the whole.

Juliagreeneyes · 10/10/2024 14:27

DD doesn’t believe any more, but when she was small I would get (and smuggle home) a roll of cheap Santa or reindeer themed paper from somewhere like Flying Tiger for stocking and Santa presents. Wrap a different paper around the outside of the roll and hide in wardrobe and Bob’s your uncle!

That said, I don’t remember even noticing the paper my Santa presents came in when I was a child, but I’m sure a sharp-eyed kid might notice (DD had form for asking uncomfortable questions like “why are they advertising stocking fillers in Tesco when Santa is the one who makes the stocking presents?” and so on…) 🤣🤦‍♀️

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 10/10/2024 14:32

FC used to use a different paper that changed yearly but swapped to brown paper a few years ago for environmental reasons. His sleigh itself has negative emissions but the reindeer don't so he does his best to make up for that by using eco-friendly wrapping. He uses a wax seal and recyclable gifts tags. The dc like to keep the seals. Each year there is a different festive ribbon used and the ribbons are used for craft afterwards. There have been some beautiful ribbons. All the FC gifts are put under the tree whilst FC magicks family gifts into their sacks from wherever I've hidden them. He doesn't come in the house because he knows that freaks us out so he does it all in the blink of an eye as he flies over. He's clever like that.

GPNightmare · 10/10/2024 14:33

We did plain paper in the DC’’s favourite colour. Not necessarily very Christmassy but they thought it was magical that Santa knew their favourite colour 😂

sangriaandsunshine · 10/10/2024 14:36

When DC1 was a toddler, I got a giant roll of wrapping paper which said "from Santa" as part of the design along with pictures of the man himself, elves and reindeer. It was perfect. It lasted both DC until DC1 was about 10 and I beat myself up a little bit each year that I haven't found a suitable replacement. The DC couldn't give a damn!

This, basically. Each child has their individual paper so that Santa doesn't get the presents muddled up. That paper is different from the paper used to wrap family gifts.

He usually uses paper with Santa, reindeer etc. on and the "classier" paper is saved for family gifts.

LolaJ87 · 10/10/2024 14:41

My santa presents were never wrapped! They were just left out unwrapped so we could see them all when we walked in.

That's what we are doing with our son now.

One to consider maybe? You could check the eco-friendly option when writing Santa letters...

MoneyAndPercentages · 10/10/2024 14:44

I brought a shitload of very bright, distinctive, Santa wrap when it was on clearance in Sainsbury's for like 10p one year. Genuinely enough for every Christmas for the next 15 or so years of Santa only presents - low risk of getting that wrap from others because it was properly discontinued 😂

If you have enough storage space could you do something like that? And maybe a generic santa wrap this year before they go on clearance?

minipie · 10/10/2024 14:46

I always used different paper for Santa gifts to tree (from family) gifts. But not different for each child - I just wrote their initial in gold on each present as I wrapped it.

The Santa paper changed each year, as did the tree paper, why wouldn’t Santa have different designs each year?

Love the stamp idea

That's genius! But the Elves won't be around in late December to pick up the 10p reduced wrapping paper, they'll have fucked off on holiday by then.
