What is the best thing you've received in a hamper?

My in laws are miserable hard to buy for. More so my FIL who doesn't have any hobbies or interests. This year we are on a limited budget and I'm going to put together a hamper for them. I know some people think they are naff but I have spent previous years researching and spending quite a lot of money on things like restaurant vouchers only for them to never use them!

I'll make some decorations with our baby and I'm getting DH to put together a list of all their favourite snacks etc. I will probably do 2 baskets and include food and non food items.

So I'm looking for some more generic items, what have you received and loved?

Thank you again! It definitely wasn't the way i anticipated this thread was going to go but I've woken up feeling far better about the whole situation.

@Sassysoonwins I'm sorry you've also experienced this, for what it's worth i would love for someone to buy me a JM candle!

Well exactly, save your money and buy yourself a Jo Malone candle instead Grin

I think a hamper is a great idea. I love christmas shopping and have some difficult ones to buy for too. I find doing a hamper is enjoyable for me- I figure that they won't like anything so I might as well enjoy it!

Things I like in hampers are - fancy crackers, nice nuts and dried fruit, dark choc covered fruit, fancy crisps

They sounds pretty ungrateful tbh so I'd leave it to your DH. It's on him then .

MIL is often given a box of M&S food we know she will like. Simple stuff like biscuits, mint humbugs, tinned salmon, ham and soup, a cheddar cheese, jam.

We called in this week and I noticed she has very few glasses or mugs so this year we'll buy 2 glasses and 2 mugs.

She says she doesn't want much and she doesn't.

I don't like a food hamper at all, because I am fussy about what I like to eat and I am usually very disappointed that money has been spent on expensive food I don't like.

I do like shortbread. I like chocolate but not anything too fancy - I love Lindt Lindor, ordinary chocolate bars especially Cadburys Whole Nut, rose and lemon Turkish delight in the hexagonal box, maltesers.
I like good quality dark marmalade but only if it is without bits. I make my own jam so definitely don't want any of that. I don't like most chutneys. I don't like anything with chilli or ginger in it. I don't like 'artisanal' crackers for cheese, especially oatcakes.
I love good cheddar and nutty hard cheeses like gruyere and emmental, I can't bear runny or mouldy cheeses and I really can't be bothered with cheeses like Wensleydale.
I don't drink, so bottles of booze are no good.
I like Christmas cake, but will probably already have bought one by the time I'm given a hamper.

all in all - unless somebody knows exactly what I like them I am going to be disappointed with a hamper.
Hopefully you know your in laws well enough to choose things they like... If not then I would seriously think about getting something else instead.

Thank you for the replies. I did get them a F&M hamper a few years back but the feedback was that it was overpriced/too posh/I was showing off.

Wow! With that ‘feedback’, the only thing I’d be willing to give them is a lump of coal!

How ungrateful! I’d love a hamper from Fortnums. <hint, hint>

Do they have a favourite garden centre they like to go to ?
A voucher for the cafe perhaps .
