@GettingStuffed do you have a link to your vintage Bird Book, I think things might be right up my Dads street. Thanks!😀

I've been looking at a flower subscription for my mum. You can get fresh flowers delivered each month. She loves to have flowers but would never buy them for herself.

Inthedeep · 19/10/2024 22:34

A new garden fork for my Mum (apparently my Dad has bent the prongs and wrecked her old ones 😂) and a large handmade,
ceramic quiche dish she fell in love with at a market in the South of France. Generally my Mum likes practical presents, one year she asked for electric fencing for her goats 😂! I also buy her a random book each year. Her favourite was about how to stack wood the Scandinavian way.

My Dad is harder, he doesn’t have as many interests as my Mum and isn’t as fond of practical presents 😂. So far I’ve got him a special large mug from a local potter and I’m thinking another Sherpa lined shirt/jacket as he tends to feel the cold and likes layers. Chocolate and nougat is always a winner with him too.

@NCembarassed i also bought the Georgie Porgie puddings for my dad last year! He loved them so much, I bought them for my cousin a few months later! Absolutely brilliant.

We are “the parents”. Favourite presents are experiences rather than stuff. Don’t want too much spent on us, especially by eldest and DIL who have their own family and expenses. Young adult DD does prefer to buy presents (and lives at home) so I try and find something she will enjoy buying. This year I want a pair of silver hoop earrings, I have previously asked for a scented candle or a specific perfume.

maldivemoment · 20/10/2024 08:26

@Inthedeep any chance you remember what the wood stacking book was called? Right up my husbands street! 😆

maldivemoment · 20/10/2024 08:35

@Inthedeep 😆
So good! Thank you.

My DD is the most thoughtful present buyer you could possibly meet. Last year she bought her dad a modelling kit, it's a globe that lights up and rotates plus biscuits and other small things because he can never get enough biscuits. She got me 2 Lego sets because at the ripe old age of 66 I have got a bit obsessed.
I had a photo of all three kids sat on a picnic bench when they were about 4, 5 and 6 and she recreated it when they were all late twenties and framed them both together, that one made me cry and has pride of place in our living room.

Edited

@lazyarse, Can I ask what the model was of and where she got it?
Think this might be good for my daughters boyfriend.
Ta!

@Inthedeep 😆
So good! Thank you.

Just be prepared for them to try and discuss the book with you and even offer it up for you to read afterwards 😂🤣….. oh and in my Dad’s case as he’s the one who actually literally stacks the wood be told he’s doing it all wrong and be directed on how he actually should be doing it 😅

Just my Dad to buy for now and I'll probably buy him another cardigan and some chocolates. I know it's really boring but his eyesight isn't so good these days, which rules out a lot of the things he enjoyed in the past (jigsaws, reading etc.). He's doesn't really have any hobbies. Mainly he watches TV and you can't really buy stuff related to TV. The only other thing I can think of is pyjamas or maybe a dressing gown. Although he's not really a dressing gown person and probably only wears one on the odd occasion he's admitted to hospital.

Why not try Audible for him to listen to books? He can use an Alexa to listen to the actual stories. If his eyesight isn't good enough you could organise to load the books and he can just ask Alexa.
I may not have got this right because I don't have audible or an Alexa but I'm absolutely convinced it could work for him.

They are made by Rokr and she got it in a big garden centre but I got a marble run from Amazon. There's loads to choose from. Sorry for the late reply we've just moved. It'chaotic.

My mother asked for a bottle of perfume, but wanted a surprise. I got her the Cloud perfume set with a travel size, I’m sure she’ll love it.

For her stocking, I’ll get her M&S Turkish delight (she gets some every year as a tradition), a shower gel, a phone holder for her desk, her favourite moisturiser and some Peroni.
