Gifts for a back packer

Trying to think of a few small gifts for my DD. She’s mid 20’s and does a lot of travelling, usually back packing. As she’s actually home this Christmas I’d like to get her a few gifts, ideally something small and something useful for travelling. Any ideas would be appreciated.

So many things you could buy a backpacker! I love lightweight stuff and reusable stuff. It’s not glamorous, but I love my pee cloths for when I suspect I’ll be somewhere with no loo roll. I also love my ‘Bug’ penknife for a very small but sharp knife, and my Gerber multitool for when more gadgets are needed. Carabiners are cheap but always useful, for just clipping stuff to other stuff. Inflatable neck pillow for long journeys. A universal door lock (https://www.lifeventure.com/products/travel-door-lock?_pos=1&_sid=41a351c96&_ss=r) is a useful thing.

For travel plugs I use Scross plugs. They are pricier but last well and are reliable. For a travel bank, I wouldn’t bother with a solar one. They take forever to recharge and are bulky. A very powerful lightweight plug in one should give you about 4 full phone charges on a single power bank charge, which is more than you get out of a solar one. Anker are a good brand for these.

This Travel Door Lock is great for travellers to make sure intruders are locked out. It's small and lightweight so takes up little space in your bag.

Water bottle with charcoal filter so she can safely drink the water wherever she is

And definitely a solar-charged power bank with a clip for her backpack for charging while on the move.

Don't laugh but a couple of pairs of disposable knickers for those days when there's no shower access..

A doorstop if she stays at hostels. One of those rubbery triangular wedges. Great for stopping anyone being able to open the door from outside when you're sleeping/bathrooming in an unfamiliar place.

A Lifestraw if she does more wild camping/hiking. You can never have too many Lifestraws.

A hand-held sat-nav?

If you’re religious at all how about a St Christopher for safe travels?

Or a day pack that folds into itself. Lush do lovely shampoo and conditioner bars. You could
also get a laundry bar. Or luxury minis to take away? Is she a light packer? Lightweight trainers that squash into themselves are useful, or waterproof hiking sandals (depending on where she’s off to next).

Oh and a silk sleeping bag is a godsend if she’s staying in hostels or sleeping on transport. Saves using questionable linen and they fold up into almost nothing.

ok last one but AirTags are great if she’s checking luggage!

I gave a backpacker in my life a wet/dry packing cube and that was well received.

Apart from disposable knickers, quick dry pants are another good investment so they can be washed in a sink and dry overnight.

Off to look up pee cloths...
