What’s your favourite dinner?

Rocknrollstar · 02/10/2024 07:57

We always buy individual wellingtons from Lidl. But I think the best choice is to decide what you would most like to eat and go with that. What is your plan for the day? If you are going to binge watch a box set then have something you can eat in front of the tv.

Watch tv, do some crafts, read and have a long soak in the bath with wine on hand. Go for a long walk with the dog.
Curry and similar spicy meals are favoured here most days.

If you’re going traditional I’d buy one item a week from now for your dinner:

  • box of stuffing
  • gravy
  • frozen pigs in blankets

Maybe order your favourite takeaway 😋
If you want to cook massaman curry made with sheen of beef. Yum
Choose your favourite meal! I would eat a tonne of cheese and sweet snacks

I second this!

There’s still 12 (I think?) weeks to go, if you could spare a few quid a week you could pick up some really nice bits.

If you like spicy food, you could do a nice curry and look out for the frozen party food bits - samosas, onion bhajis etc. Because you’ve loads of time & they keep frozen for ages you have time to look around for offers. You could try get poppadoms with mango chutney, raita etc. You can get them in supermarkets for like 70p.

I'd grab a load of nibbles you'd get for like buffets and just spend a day picking at stuff. Saw some great frozen stuff in aldi today like pigs in blankets, brie and cranberry balls, mushroom arrancini etc x

MoneyAndPercentages · 02/10/2024 18:30

I'd go for a full on cheeseboard 😋

JC03745 · 02/10/2024 18:35

Most supermarkets sell veg like carrots, onions, brussels etc for 9p-30p a bag in the week leading up to Christmas.
If you go at last knockings, they often have lots of specials too on cheese, meats and veg that is left. I bought a huge turkey once for £5 from Morrisons at 7pm on Christmas Eve!

You can get a whole chicken from aldi/lidl for £4
Make a cauli/broccoli cheese, brussels with bacon, carrots, roaties and roast chicken.
There would be plenty left for a few days and a bit over for a bottle of wine! 😋

LePetitMaman · 02/10/2024 18:39

Aldi special range ( whatever it's called) curries are absolutely delicious. In fact we've got one tonight. They are better than takeaway quality, although we do live in the sticks and our takeaways are poor.

Your day sounds lovely to be honest. I'd make a flask of hot chocolate and take doggy to the beach. If you live near a beach and don't need to drive, a heavily spiked with Bailey's hot chocolate!

Then home for a bath, with a lovely glass of wine, then evening TV and a lovely curry.

GettingStuffed · 02/10/2024 20:13

Posh bacon for sarnies, crisps in a nice festive flavour, I hope Lidl sells their lobster cocktail crisps this year. I'd also buy a nice pudding.

Thank you for all the lovely ideas. Beach with dog it is, and Lidl the day before.

This might cost more than £10 but you may able to buy a few bits before.

I would have some nice coffee and biscuits for breakfast (or whatever your fave breakfast is)

Curry for lunch with your fave sides

Cheese and crackers plus other snacks for dinner/evening snacks.

If you can iceland and Herons tend to some nice freezer buffet bits at that time of year.

You could even have an Xmas dinner on boxing day as it will all be reduced!

Cheese, olives, pickles, good bread & butter.
