DS just wants “surprises” or “stuff he can use”.
Money is no use, he’s got a part time job and no outgoings, plus more than 10x the savings I’ve ever had 😂

He wears clothes but isn’t into them- me and Dd17 normally choose for him.

He’s waiting to start his first career type job soon. It has uniform so no clothes or equipment needed.

He has a gaming pc, Spotify and gym membership. No other interests really besides friends and walking the dog. He eats healthily so not into treat food. Doesn’t cook beyond grilled chicken/ boiled veg/ scrambled eggs.

i can’t not get him anything as he’d feel left out (3 siblings). Does anyone have any inspiration?

Oh, and I bought him driving lessons for his 17th. They expired.

An experience day of some sort? Llama walk/zookeeper for a day or animal encounter experience/flying in a wind tunnel/ driving a tank? The possibilities are endless!!
Coffee maker.
Cookery lessons.
Air fryer.
Waffle maker.
Gym clothes, from somewhere like Gymshark. Maybe a session with a personal trainer. Or weights to use at home.

New trainers for the gym, better than what he has already!
Weekend away for him and his partner, if he has one.

Needmorelego · 01/10/2024 23:09

A paperback book
New Socks
Chocolate Santa
Lynx
Don't spend £££ if he isn't interested. If he wanted something that badly he'd say so.

Howmanysleepsnow · 01/10/2024 23:15

Gym clothes are an option, though he got gymshark stuff and trainers for his birthday recently. The gym is walking distance from home so though he has weights here he prefers to walk to the gym (think there’s a social aspect).
We have an airfryer, but he’s not interested in learning more cooking. Food is fuel, rather than pleasure.
No partner, and I’d be worried the experience day would expire like his driving lessons did (unless I booked the same for DD17 who is his best friend and 10000x more organised- she is the planner 😂, he goes along with it!)

I don’t need/ want to spend £££. It’s more trying to come up with a thoughtful surprise he’ll appreciate.

-Do you have a budget in mind? I too was thinking of an experience day. Fly a plane intro, gliding, car racing, zorbing?
-Not for everyone, but a taxidermy class? www.afieldguide.org/workshops.html
-Cocktail making, cooking lesson/s, BBQ skills, yo sushi course yosushi.com/sushi-school
-A good shaver set, aftershave, quirky/pattered underwear? DH likes Step One, because they are longer on the leg and don't roll up. https://uk.stepone.life/collections/mens-all
-Cinema ticket/vouchers (no idea if that age still go to the cinema though?)

@Howmanysleepsnow it doesn't sound like he's that fussed though so would he really appreciate it?

MaybeItsBecauseImALodoner · 01/10/2024 23:49

I have a son the same age who I find it difficult to buy for but my list last year was..
Trainers (Hoka are a good brand for training/running)
Aftershave
Skin care set
Pringles
Chocolate
Alcohol
Boxers
Socks
Plain Nike T-shirts
New duvet set
Voucher for Nando's
Running headphones
Water bottle

pizzaHeart · 01/10/2024 23:50

Are you after a big present or several smaller ones?
Im not good for a big present but for smaller ones you can do small power bank, fancy travel bottle, personalized socks, T-shirt with a slogan ( there are a lot on Amazon and some of them are really funny), lunch bag plus food wraps, containers etc if he is going to take lunch bag to work.
I bought today a mug for DD’s stocking with a slogan ( ftom B&M) and set of fridge magnets from Lidl ( £0.99). I didn’t plan it but they both looked interesting.

caringcarer · 01/10/2024 23:54

Red bubble do some nice t shirts my boys like. Marvel underpants, Star Wars socks, key ring.

PoodleMum23 · 02/10/2024 01:39

A photo album? Full of family photos from years gone by up to this year. Home videos compilation?

Things for his bedroom like comfy pillows, duvet set or any kind of furniture? Posh cologne?

PoodleMum23 · 02/10/2024 01:41

Alsonification · 02/10/2024 04:54

roonetta · 02/10/2024 06:11

Some good quality headphones for his gaming? How about some protein shakes and a fancy cup to drink them from?

I have an 18 year old DD who is the same and never asks for anything. It's so difficult and you feel like you are buying things for the sake of it. Hope you get some good ideas 😊

MissSkegness1951 · 02/10/2024 06:49

If he goes to the gym and eats healthy he might like to up his game -

I keep saying this but coins, they don't lose value and if you need money at any point you can sell them.

You can get uncirculated 50p for £12 from Royal Mint.

At present there are only 50p and £1 coins with the kings head on, and in 2023 there were only 50p coins issued so a complete set of brilliant uncirculated coins is the only way to obtain a coin with the king on that is not a 50p in 2023. They are £34.

In 1983 the 2p coin changed from having 'New pence' on it to 'Two pence', but the ones in the complete set still had 'New Pence', those coins (1983 with 'New Pence') are now worth up to £1000.

This is going to sound odd but a pension?

I'm not completely obsessed with money / financials.

Things for the gym? Gloves, water bottle, towel?

Iwoot often have some bits and pieces for surprises. There is a mini henry hoover to clean your computer keyboard.

A BBQ in a tool box, I know you said he doesn't cook much but it might be nice for summer.

I have an instant camera that has proved popular at family events.

What about a mystery tour? Involve his siblings or friends. Get them to decide where they will take him and what they will do. It could be just a trip tot he local cinema and pizza hut afterwards, or it could be more complicated.

It wouldn't have to be just on one day, it could be a few trips, give him a diary with the dates in and a clue.

Wouldn't recommend Lynx! My teens grew out of that when they were about 12. DD16 is into fragrances, maybe take him to a fragrance shop to choose, including lunch?

Needmorelego · 02/10/2024 07:32

@DiscoBeat my husband uses Lynx. He's 59 😂

Lallyhead87 · 02/10/2024 10:52

A voucher for something like quad biking/ escape room or something dd might be interested in too so she can book it.
Comedy gig tickets
New jacket / trainers
Bit random but an ice bath if he's into fitness, got my dh one last year and he loves it.

Bringautumnnights · 02/10/2024 13:10

If he has a gaming PC how about Steam vouchers?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 02/10/2024 13:45

Some trainers?

A new coat?

Air pods?

^^ is what my 18yo has asked for.

DisruptiveCumin · 02/10/2024 14:02

Gaming headset?
Protein shakes/bars. A good gym bag or a fitness tracking watch?
If he's into digital things, then maybe he'd like software subscription? Something like a photo editor or a good video editing software could be pretty useful.
