Aldi or M&S Christmas?

Every year Aldi do their dupes of M&S Christmas food and treats.
Do you think they really do compare or do you stick to M&S?

M & S here . Nothing wrong with Aldi but got us Christmas is a time for indulgence and omg the M & S foodhall is so tempting .

I get a mixture of both and have always been happy. Usually get the bird from Aldi and the bits from M&S. the pigs in blankets were better in Aldi.

soupfiend · 01/10/2024 08:32

Aldi every time. I find their food really good quality and less than half the price at times

Lalanbaba · 01/10/2024 08:39

Usually shop in aldi, so main part is from there.
Always happy with the quality.
I get bits and bobs from m&s, waitrose, Tesco and local garden centre. Mainly treats and chocolates

I car get everything we like in Aldi. I also find their fruit and veg doesn’t last so for me the quality is better at M&S.

LePetitMaman · 01/10/2024 11:00

Aldi don't "dupe" everything. But what they do, is usually as good or sometimes better than the M&S version.

There will be the odd dud, but as a rule, I'd rather pay 60% of the price and have 99% same quality.

M&S are good for their pre made stuff, and Aldi copy it fabulously.

Waitrose however, is far better for raw ingredients type cooking. The meat and fish is unrivalled. Aldi can't dupe those things, so our Christmas shop will be a mix of Aldi and Waitrose...with the main piece of meat from our local butchers.

I was always team Aldi but then last year a lot of stuff was poor quality and I was disappointed. I think they’d changed a lot of stuff to use cheaper ingredients and it no longer tasted right. For example their florentines used to be the best, but last year they were like overly sweet peanut brittle with waxy tasteless chocolate on.

RaraRachael · 01/10/2024 11:18

Can't speak for Aldi and I don't have one near but last year I decided to get a lot of stuff from Lidl instead of M and S as I felt theirs was becoming ridiculously expensive. Even stuff like their Christmas cake has gone up in price but has shrunk considerably.
The stuff from Lidl was perfectly nice and a fraction of the price so i'll be doing it again this year,

M&S are taking the piss this year on prices. It will be Aldi or Lidl for me.

I thought the pricing was a little punchy - 8 quid for carrots! 😂

Nap1983 · 01/10/2024 13:30

Mix and match of a few shops for me. Some if the M&S prices are taking the piss now. But their fruit is so much better than anywhere else, we never waste any. Also their greek yoghurt with vanilla… yum

The Christmas Colin the Caterpillar is £15, that was a tenner previously. And even then they were pushing it.

What.

TripleCarber · 01/10/2024 19:36

We do a mix of both, and I think even if we won the lottery I would continue to do so.
I’m always really impressed with Aldi, I always know m&s is going to be nice but Aldi always surpasses my expectations that I set

LePetitMaman · 01/10/2024 19:51

Dear god!

Shoesshoes87 · 01/10/2024 20:06

wtf 😳

ThespTheo · 01/10/2024 20:07

Neither.

Waitrose has a better range, better quality and higher welfare than either of them.

ABirdsEyeView · 04/10/2024 21:11

I usually do meat from the butcher, then a mix. I've found Aldi mince pies, for ex, to be better than M&S. But I like M&S sweets and chocolates - they feel more special than Aldi etc.
Aldi is fab imo and much better value than M&S, who are prone to some utterly piss taking prices!

TeaMistress · 04/10/2024 21:33

I like Marks and Spencers Christmas range but it is really overpriced. It genuinely has some lovely food and treats like the peppermint bark but it is incredibly expensive. Things are a bit different this year and having a much smaller quieter Christmas but I will still get some nice food. I will get a fresh turkey crown wrapped in bacon from my local butcher for around £20 and will probably still get some nice bits from a mixture of Marks / Lidl / Sainsbury's.
