Christmas Decorations! Help!

Hi everyone, I am moving into my own place in October with my partner, we are also expecting a baby and I am a huge lover of Christmas.
I want help on where to get Christmas decorations from and a nice tree (fake), I like traditional colours, don't like glitter and sparkles etc as I'm not a big fan of modern decorations themes. Not on a huge budget as now have bills to pay and buying baby things but not trying to do it really cheap either, any help is appreciated!

Don’t discount good old fashioned crafts. A paper chain on a tree can look really lovely. Cut out snowflakes or other shapes.

I made a tree topper with some stiff paper I found lying around and some glitter. We used it for years.

I like a traditional looking tree so I also buy tartan ribbon and have bows on the end of the branches

Honestly the best tree iv ever bought is actually from home bargains. Its a snow flecked 7ft one around 79.99 if I remember properly but its sooooo bushy. I've had loads of trees where they look great on the photo but taken out the box they're so sparse and bald but this bad boy is still going strong after 5 years and everyone always asks where its from.
B&M have some gorgeous decorations this year too and they're always very reasonably priced.

IKEA. The decorations look very old/traditional. I bought a few boxes as a student on a budget and I still have them! Really good quality, glass baubles, wooden figurines. I was quite upset when I smashed one of them last year!

This is a fab idea! Completely forgot about IKEA, thank you :)

I love paper decorations and have a big collection of new and vintage. You can get tiny paper fans, wheels and honeycomb shapes that you can hang from tree branches. They come in a big range if colours and look lovely alongside more traditional baubles.

Another thing I like to do is drape paper chains around the tree. Again, you can get them in whichever colour scheme you like. Last year I made my own from old music sheets.

I'll find some links.

Love the sound of these! Thank you :)

I bought a couple of gorgeous fake trees from Homebase. But I got them in January when they were seriously discounted. Blush

I know I wont be able to get one discounted annoyingly, but the tree I do get will last me a few years hopefully, are they expensive outside of the sale do you know?

I'm not a very crafty person, and as I'll have just moved into a place I don't think I'd have time on top of work😫

Gumtree has an entire Christmas decoration category…well worth a look from now as a lot of people change up all their decorations regularly. I’ve just had a look locally to me and there are 4 t artificial trees which look like really decent ones

EdithGrantham · 01/10/2024 08:51

If anyone asks what you want for Xmas you could ask them to get you one bauble that they think you'd like, then you'd have a good start on some more special decorations?

Ilovemyshed · 01/10/2024 11:13

Also worth looking on selling sites, people get rid of loads running up to Christmas

GettingStuffed · 01/10/2024 18:31

John Lewis usually have some amazing ones.

I got my tree from Next over 20 years ago. It cost £60, which was obviously more back then, but it's lasted well so was worth it. It's in a weighted wicker pot which I prefer to a stand. I also grow a smaller real one in a pot in the back garden which I bring in. I ordered it online one January as it was cheaper then.

Vinted has loads of bundles, and Tkmaxx always a good selection. We got a fake tree last year from Argos.

I love the snowy ones. So pretty

Last year I just put loads of coloured lights on one tree and it looked amazing in the dark, which it was 99% of the time we were home.
