Gift ideas for 14 year old book lover

DD has discovered the joy of reading books this year and it is all she has asked for so far.

I am happy to get her a couple of box sets to keep her going, but would like to get her some other book related gifts as well.

Also, if anyone has any ideas for 18 year old DS who asks for nothing, I would be very grateful!

I keep seeing adverts on Facebook for something called the Whispering Pages where you can get personalised book embossers. You can also get them on Etsy. I don't have one but would have loved one as a 14yo (and also now!)

Jennyathemall · 29/09/2024 16:29

I’d probably get her some books.

There are some lovely bookmarks on Etsy. I bought my daughter a nice reading light and quirky bookshelves on there too. Waterstones vouchers always go down well too.

A few bits and pieces like cushions, throws, bean bag, to make a cosy reading corner (if she doesn't have one already). A little clip-on rechargeable reading lamp (can clip onto a bedframe for example), or a more grown up bedside table/lamp combo.

Any little trinket related to her favourite book series (etsy is your friend here!)

Some lovely ideas, thank ypu, that embosser looks great.

Off to Etsy for a look.

I was given a tshirt a few years ago that said
"the book was better" I loved it. Think it was from etsy

Just had a look and there are lots of booky t shirts and hoodies on Etsy, thank you

A book subscription, DD really liked Fairyloot

BESTAUNTB · 29/09/2024 18:25

The Banned Books jigsaw (or any other merch) from the Literary Gift Company. They have some nice advent calendars too.

A while ago I saw a mug which said GO AWAY, I'M READING.

I get adverts for a company called something like The Literary Gift Company. Could you find them and see if there's anything there?

I second the idea of a cushion or blanket for a cosy reading corner. I had a small and extremely comfortable sofa in my teenage bedroom, I loved curling up all warm and snug for an hour or so.

Have a look at the Gifts for Book Lovers in Not On The High Street, there are some nice ideas there.

If she likes Harry Potter, the Mina Lima versions are gorgeous. Worth it as works of art. Otherwise, i second the Fairyloot subscription.

My DS is a big reader and I got him a thumb book thingy which is good for chunky books!

A decent book light
Shh I’m Reading socks
Some cool bookmarks
And the old favourite - book tokens. National book tokens are great as can be used in all the main bookshops and loads and loads of local independent too.

UserNameOfShame · 29/09/2024 21:33

A reading journal. Waterstones do a lovely one where you can write lists of books you want to read and notes and reviews of ones you've read. Really lovely.

UmopapIsdn · 29/09/2024 21:39

I forgot one of his favourites - a Spineless Classic. Frames from IKEA are cheap and I got one that fit perfectly.

Kobo, dd 12 loves it and has so far managed to get most books from local library borrowbox saving me a fortune. So glad I didn't go for a kindle

I second this. DD has one and she adores it.

She also uses an app where she reviews books and gets recommendations.

We had a subscription to a book club for a while, but it was very expensive.

T shirts, socks, reading lights, bookends have always gone down very well.

DaemonMoon · 29/09/2024 22:11

Literary gift company
Collectable books. Harper Muse, Penguin cloth bound, Chiltern classics etc.
Embosser. I have my eyes on one of those.
100 books to read scratch off poster

AnneButNotHathaway · 01/10/2024 12:24

Kindle! Or a book club subscription where they send you a book of the month for a whole year.
Also if she likes particular authors, you can look into gift sets of their books. If she has a favorite book, make a video greeting card with quotes from this book or get her a t-shirt/hoodie with her favorite lines printed.

Singleandproud · 01/10/2024 12:29

There is a shop on Etsy called the Literary Emporium, they are fantastic. Very quick at sending and the products come beautifully wrapped although a little pricey. I bought DD the Maya Angelo set one year and the Sappho one this year.

She loves poetry and classic books so she has several 'Beautiful Books' hard backed, cloth bound ones that she will (hopefully) keep for ever.
