I'm absolutely at a loss with things to get for DH.

He hates getting stuff for the sake of it and doesn't want clothes. He buys his own hygiene stuff and certainly wouldn't see it as a gift. I've tried buying 'personalised' and sentimental gifts before but he's not really interested. His main interests are chess (has a very expensive chess board and a travel set), Celtic football club (that he has season tickets for and all of the shirts/hoodies/jackets) and Formula 1 (which he has all of the books for). I keep trying to talk him into a GP next year but he's not keen as he's been to a few before but isn't fussed to go again. Doesn't want to go to the F1 exhibition in London either (tbf we are in Scotland so it's far). I just don't know what to get him. Any ideas are very gratefully received. Is anyone else's DH very hard to buy for? To top it off, he has a January birthday 🙃

Could you upgrade stuff he has that’s tatty? Even just a full pants drawer replacement! Wash bag a bit grim? is there a job he hates that you could cover for him? Like booking to get the lawn mowed so he doesn’t have to?
I bought a lamp made from f1 parts years ago. Like this https://www.f1authentics.com/collections/lamps?srsltid=AfmBOopXSIJvntAOqUrFV-Vf2C96ve_jwlm8OAse0GwNAQUw6W46Wvse I paid a load less than this so there must be other suppliers about.

I have a difficult man to buy for too. I'm fed up with buying things that I think he'll like and then he never bothers with, so I'm interested to hear suggestions too.
As his birthday is so close to Christmas, could you book a nice break away somewhere? Does he like murder mystery events or escape rooms etc?

Absolutely get him a season ticket for Ibrox! The seat next to me is free lol! It would make him
Much happier 😂

You have not set a price range. A Nice watch but that would be expensive. Would he like an experience driving a racing car?

Magazine subscription for the chess / F1?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/09/2024 15:41

Dh loves his bamboo pants & socks.

DP and I just do token gifts now. We each write a list of things we might like, up to a value of £30. No point at all in buying for the sake of it for adults. Last year I got him a book, some beard oil and some chocolate.

GettingStuffed · 29/09/2024 18:25

A favourite drink? If he likes beer you can buy boxes of different ones. I found one with loads of Christmas beers. Or a good bottle of whisky etc

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/09/2024 18:28

Some locally brewed beers is a really good idea, if he likes beer.

purplespink · 29/09/2024 21:39

@BluebellsareBlue he would genuinely rather jump off the top of Ibrox than step inside 😂

Thank you so much for the ideas everyone! Budget is about £200.

Maybe you can cooperate with other relatives or friends and make a Birthday video for him? Here are some ideas for a birthday video, but the easiest one would be to record everyone saying something nice about him or sharing funny stories etc, and then you join these video files in one ling video. It could be a nice part of a gift!

I bought DH a subscription for cocktails through the post last year. Just a few a month, he liked them and he is very difficult to buy for. The company I used was called NIO.
My Dad likes a magazine subscription so he gets a small gift every month.

FeedMeSantiago · 14/10/2024 11:41

Would he like a subscription for something like the Spicery or Rise Coffee? Basically things he likes but a nicer treat version!

Notmanyleftnow · 16/10/2024 13:22

If he genuinely doesn't want a present, you could ask him if there's a charity he would like to support, and give the £200 to that? Makes more sense than effectively wasting it on a gift he doesn't want.

Dinner at the Celtic Park restaurant?
