Any thoughts on the best first marble run for a 3 year old!

I’d wait another year.

I’d wait another year.

I did wonder this too

Hape quadrilla range is a great option. Falls over quite easily if it’s knocked but a v good quality and build options. My 9 yr old plays with it still with her younger sister.

InTheRainOnATrain · 29/09/2024 07:44

My older child got it as a birthday present but wasn’t that interested and it’s since become my 3YOs favourite toy. No idea which one it is because the box is long gone but they’re much of a much aren’t they? Only downside is the cat goes mental chasing any loose marbles around the house!

We have a Galt marble run. It's lasted well and easy to put together and take apart.

Yeah I'd maybe be thinking this too. Or accept that you will probably spend a lot of time helping them build it and deal with the frustration of it falling over. Which is totally doable of course, but not something I personally would have the patience for.

I’d be worried about a three year old (or their younger sibling) swallowing marble. Perfect size for blocking airway. So I’d need to be convinced they never put toys in mouth etc.

I haven't seen her put a toy in her mouth for over a year, she was never a huge mouther anyway and no younger siblings.
But I absolutely agree with that concern

Would also wait another year or so. For safety and your sanity... you know how loud marble runs are? Over and over and over and......🤣🥴

Marble run is my son's favourite toy! We had a Galt one as a starter set and then got a Vtech marble rush. These are huge and expensive but really sturdy. He has it almost permanently set up. But probably not worth it yet unless you have a marble run fanatic!

daffodilandtulip · 29/09/2024 08:19

What about something like this. The balls are about golf ball size, and less pieces to have to keep building! You can line the three pieces up as well as having it set like this.

I'd go for the classic galt

Flubadubba · 29/09/2024 09:42

DD got the classic galt one when she was 3 and she loves it (she is now 5)

If you happen to already have a load of Duplo, the Hubelino add on is pretty great, it is much more stable than any of the standard marble runs and you can add it into other builds.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 29/09/2024 10:10

We got my oldest marble run when she was 3 she still plays with it 8 years later so do my other two children. It’s a great gift. Go for the plastic galt one don’t try and get something aestheticly pleasing or made of wood they don’t work as well. For marble run I’m afraid brightly coloured plastic is the way to go!

Starlightstarbright3 · 29/09/2024 10:13

My Ds had a marble game at that age . I went in the kitchen came back he had a mouth full of marbles 🙈.. I had to try calmly get him to spit them out . The toy went from our house and never returned .

Finchgold · 29/09/2024 10:48

National Geographic glow in the dark in the biggest size your happy to splash out on. That was the main present for my child when they were 3 and it’s still played with at 10. Bigger is better in terms of longlevity. Glow in the dark is very fun especially in the bath.

We were gifted another two marble runs including a galt one in later years but they were not as good as the National Geographic. It’s simple, sturdy and good quality.

The wooden ones are beautiful but very expensive to get a good amount of pieces and they require a patient steady hand which our household does not possess!

Finchgold · 29/09/2024 10:50

Oh and your three year old probably won’t be able to build a marble run the self but it’s a lovely family activity and they learn as they grow. It becomes a really good toy for when they have friends over.

We had the wooden Lidl one (*may have been Aldi) and it was played with for years. We were given a plastic one later on, possibly Clementoni brand, but I don't remember. Even for an 8yo it was a pain in the tits, fragile, kept falling over, marbles would fly off in different directions.
As h got older, DS made elaborate ones out if Lego, loo rolls funnels..... Basically junk modelling, but it kept him occupied for months, a couple of years at most!

The wooden one was passed along when he was 10 and his interests changed, still in great condition and with nothing lost.

Mumdiva99 · 29/09/2024 12:33

Marble run was one of our most played with toys. As others have said they really grow with the kids. Get the biggest best one you can afford. Ours was galt or similar. (I enjoyed setting up for the kids when they were small).

MillicentMama · 29/09/2024 15:31

I bought a Galt marble run when my eldest was 3. He’s nearly 10 and it’s in great condition. DCs play with it now and then and always have fun. We added another set to it to go bigger and bought extra marbles.

Mumwithbaggage · 29/09/2024 15:37

I am not allowed to get rid of the Quadrilla marble run because the sdult children sometimes play with it (with friends) when they come home 😂They were a bit older when we got it.
