DIY advent calendar for my daughter with first home

Hello All, I appreciate it’s fairly early but I am looking to put together a ‘home’ advent calendar for my daughter who has just brought her first home, and I’m looking for inspirational ideas :) I’m thinking useful treats for around the home that she couldn’t usually afford. Also, if there are any things that you use around the home that are lovely. Thank you so much in advance everyone

What a lovely idea. Do you want smaller items you can put into an advent box/wall hanging or just 24 things to unwrap? I am going g for.ohysically small for dd but she is 9! So v different audience!

Ideas for your dd: candles - fancy scented, sire, but I love electric candles as so much more practical sometimes from tea light sized to big ones that change colour.

Nice wine glasses (or sherry or whatever).

Pretty tea towels

Good hand soap/hand lotion

Photo frames (you can do mini ones if you are aiming for small)

Small serving dishes/fancy ramekins - the kind of thing you don't buy for yourself but are lovely for entertaining.

If she lives alone, miniature bottles of alcohol.

Herbs/spices

Double sided tape for sticking things to walls etc.

Fancy oil or vinegar

Luxury cosmetics as per her preference.

What sort of style is she in to and what sort of budget are you looking at?

For me, I would have appreciated:
A nice scented candle
Reed diffuser
Slippers
Tea pot
Nice casserole/lasagne dish
Butter dish
Towels
Tablecloth
Photo frame
Mug
Bubble bath/nice shower gel
Voucher for a supermarket (food shop)!
Vase with flowers
Plant in a nice pot (I like to give a cactus as new home gift as they're hard to kill)

My sister is very different to me and would have wanted
A light up make up mirror
Storage for jewellery and cosmetics
Cushions
Takeaway voucher
Wine glasses
Bottle of vodka

Radiator key.
A torch in case of power cuts (one that has a flat base so you can stand it up and still use your hands is ideal)
batteries the right size for the smoke alarm.
IKEA used to sell a box of assorted screws and things that might come in handy.
festive scented diffuser
frog tape if she’s planning on repainting a room
a CO alarm if there isn’t one fitted
a couple of new decorations for her tree

Edit: I’ve gone for mostly practical things she might not have and might suddenly need.

I would go for a mix of every day luxuries and practical bits you don’t realise are important until you have your own home…

Oversized bath towel
Linen bath mat
Stove top coffee pot
Crepe pan (unexpectedly versatile)
French soap and a soap dish
Bonbon jar for sweets/biscuits
Commemorative 2024 Christmas bauble
Caddy for cleaning products
Emma Bridgewater cocoa mug for a BIG cuppa
Smudge stick to clear the energy of the house
Tea towels which match her kitchen
Sugar bowl
Silicone trivets

I love these ideas !!! I want a mix of practical and luxury, my plan was to put them wrapped in a box so size isn’t to much of an issue. I need some ideas of cheap, but useful items also. My budget is about £200. So I can have some nicer things, but also a few cheap but practical ideas also. Thanks again, some really good ideas :)

I bought my DD one of these baubles last year. Obviously lego fan but lots of other ideas about.

I do my adult kids (and this year doing my three friends also) an advent basket/bag- some goodies like luxury hot chocolate (Lindt and hotel chocolate go down well), mini stroopwaffles, chocolate coins or Xmassy chocolate treats, nice biscuits… plus a Christmas candle (got Yankee candy cane ones in the sale last year!), Xmas themed tea towel/hand towel/oven gloves. And then some other gifts specific to them- dd is getting a lovely Xmas thrown from tk maxx and some car cleaning goodies as she got a new car plus bath and body works hand wash… friend and DS will get some cooking related gifts as they both enjoy cooking, like fancy spices and salts, wee gadgets, other friend will get yoga socks and a new notebook for her journalling.
Adult kids might also get a £2 advent calendar in amongst their bag/basket lol

This is so lovely. thinking about useful but super cheap items you could get one of those scented candle sets and wrap them individually. A tape measure? Box of matches? Bottle of bleach, cleaning sponges, egg cups, kitchen roll, tin of biscuits, box of teabags, toilet brush (they do them for £1.50 in ikea)

alternatively you could get some more expensive items if you made it a 12 day advent calendar? Might your daughter prefer this to lots of cheaper things?

ButIsItArt · 27/09/2024 11:53

Christmas loo roll and kitchen roll?
Festive hand wash or soap

Oven gloves.
Baking trays.
One of those washing up brushes that you put washing up liquid in and it automatically dispenses.
Coasters.
Spatulas.
Measuring jug.
Colander/sieve.

I would probably go to Ikea and stock up in Market Place (I think that is the correct name, the bit where all the cheap kitchen stuff is). I think my washing up brush was £1.20 and the spatulas 50p each, at the start of summer.

Microfibre cloths
extension cable
sellotape and scissors
silicone pot trivet
clicky candle lighter
slow cooker
Extending duster
windowsill herb pots

I bought a battery case for the house (exciting I know) but DH loves it as we can see all of them , there's a battery tester too so any dead ones go straight into recycling . They used to live in a biscuit tin. ( You need to put some batteries in too Xmas Grin )

Something by OxoGoodGrips or Joseph&Joseph for household

One of those rechargeable mini whisks and some hot chocolate (Hotel Chocolat or similar)

Magnetic hooks can go on the fridge door
