Legoland at Christmas

DS is Lego obsessed, however we haven't got round to a trip to Legoland yet. I was looking at going for his birthday, which is in December and staying in the resort hotel for a night.

It says it includes a day ticket and 'selected rides and attractions'. Can't seem to see anywhere it indicates what this may be.

Has anyone been and would you recommend it? Was there lots of things you couldn't do and is it worth waiting until the season starts again next year? Any advice appreciated as we want to make the first trip amazing and it's also not an overnight stay we would do again.

How old is your son?
We go every year and really enjoy it. It’s beautifully decorated, and worth staying a bit longer until dusk/ darkness to see the lights.
Majority of the rides will be open apart from water slides as they drain them for the winter. If it’s a rainy day some rollercoaster rides may also be closed but this is a safety measure, and if the rain clears, they usually reopen.
if your son is young it’s also worth booking a visit to see Santa. We did this with DD when she was younger and loved the gifts you get (Lego set)

So yes would definitely recommend it.

We've been at Christmas a couple of times. No, not all the rides are open.

None of the water rides are open, except the submarine one. Some of the kiosk type eating/drinking outlets are closed but still plenty open.

The daily show at the lagoon isn't on.

We've always had a great time with plenty to do still.

Should have said @Mb76 DS will have just turned 6 and his sister will be nearly 3.

It's really helpful to know that there still a decent amount open, thank you both. I was just a bit worried the park element could be a flop but if it's only water rides (weather permitting) then it sounds like it could be a good idea. Can then go in the summer in a couple of years - I remember the show on the lake fondly from going as a kid!

He also loves swimming so the pool will be a hit, and we can combo with a Santa visit.

Op I am not a lego land fan at all.
Unfortunately I find uk theme parks to be utterly appalling compared to their UK counterparks.
So much I would strongly suggest looking to save up and doing the lego land in billund?
Efteling, europa Park etc are what theme parks should be.

Having said all of that, we have been twice at Xmas, and I the dc did enjoy it.
It's dressed up and had some cute extra stuff on.
The problem is the rides are so short they are over in seconds but you queue for hours.

If you have too go at Xmas and I'd also stay off site.

Word of warning- the visit to Santa isn’t included and they weren’t clear about when booking for it opened so it was fully booked!

We went with friends and all the DC aged 3,6,6 loved it.

Clicheinaqashqai · 25/09/2024 18:51

Thank you for the list, that is really helpful @oneplustwoplustwoplusone

@Jukeboxjive I did look at Billund but it isn't available when we would need for it to be a birthday occasion and much more expensive than we could afford for this year. We do have Efteling on our list though for a summer trip.

@Twilightstarbright thanks for the warning, I will double check this is available before deciding if we go for it or not.

Does anyone know if you stay 1 night, if the entry to the park is on the day of arrival or departure or if you just get a ticket and can choose which day you go?

We go every year.
It's fantastic at Christmas as most rides are open. And the best thing is there are no queues!!!! You'll love it. With us, they just ket us stay on the rides over and over.

I have very mixed feelings about the santa though. It was very rushed for a start. My 3 year old got a soft toy which was cute but my boys (6 and 8) got a random 5+ lego tractor. My 8 year old was very disappointed. It seemed a lot like they were just getting rid of old stock and giving away any old tat!!!!!
My neighbour found the same the following year so this is obviously something they always do. For that money, i feel they should put in some effort and give you something christmas themes

Just to warn you, we stayed in the Legoland hotel this summer. I think I got 2 hrs sleep during the night due to small excited feet running around above me and the noise of doors shutting. That was with a white noise machine and earplugs. We were also disappointed with the size of the pool - the kids splash zone has one slide, the pool area is tiny.
However Legoland at Xmas does look lovely, the mini world area is decorated and it's fun to spot the Xmas trees. There's a parade which is nice to wave at. As a previous poster has said the water rides are closed.
If you do stay until closing, don't rush. We've spent over an hour queuing to get out of the carpark before.

oneplustwoplustwoplusone · 25/09/2024 19:29

@Clicheinaqashqai I asked that exact question and they said it the ticket can be scanned once on either day but obvs only used once.

Favouritefruits · 25/09/2024 20:32

Depends where you live in the country but it was cheaper for us to go to Billund Legoland than Windsor, the flight was only £12.99 each way, it would cost us more in fuel and parking that a flight…. Madness!

Clicheinaqashqai · 25/09/2024 22:36

@Voiceofreason92 thanks for the head up on the Santa visit. Seems like it could work for us due to kids ages but will keep expectations low. To be honest, I have been disappointed with 3/4 Santa visits we have done before!

@oneplustwoplustwoplusone that's great it can be used on either day, thinking especially with the weather possibly being an issue. Thank you so much.

@Favouritefruits we are only the other side of London so just over an hours drive away. I would love to go to Denmark for a longer trip, so if we don't go this December for an overnight I might try this another time.

Thank you everyone, really helpful to hear what it is actually like to go and what to keep an eye on.
