Match cost or match presents

I have 2 dds who will be 8.5 and just turned 6 at Christmas.

We are trying to cut down number of presents and I have made a rough ideas list however dd8s present ideas are all quite pricey, where as the things dd6 likes are all pretty cheap.

Both still believe on Santa and he brings all the gifts from us.

The difference in cost is probably around £90. Would it be better to buy dd6 a few more gifts to get the costs nearer (there is lots more sleep would like) or is it more important to match the number of presents?

We also have a baby but they don't need much and have no idea of costs so happy to match number of gifts with useful presents

We had a 6 yr age gap so when they were still young we matched number of presents roughly . When they got older we stopped matching anything , they just get what we think ( or know) they would like . We’ve also never had set budgets so our spend year to year can vary wildly . They are now adults , both prefer the buying for other people and we still don’t do any matching - it works for us .

Mine are younger than yours (will be just turned 7, 5, and 3 at Christmas). I match the number of presents. Last year I spent approx £70 on my oldest, £55 on middle child, and £20 on youngest. I get everything pre owned where possible hence low price on the youngest. I do try to set a similar budget for each of them but it depends on what they actually ask for
