"Main" present for DD?

Any ideas please for my lovely DD? She will be nearly 8 at Christmas. I have books and ideas for stocking fillers for her but I would like to get something she can play with/ use, ideally independently.

She doesn't need any big items like a bike, and has plenty of art materials etc. She's resolutely uninterested in dolls/ Barbie/ hair/ make-up but loves coding, nature, science, riding her bike (not in need of replacement) and climbing trees.

We have lots of Lego and Gravitrax, both of which get plenty of use, but I am reluctant to buy more as we don't have unlimited space. I'm also not wild about the Galt science kits which are really annoying in my experience.

I thought about this https://www.mulberrybush.co.uk/pyxel-coding-robot-dog but I'm not sure.

My husband has vetoed this https://www.wickeduncle.co.uk/childrens-presents/lets-explore-oceans-vr on the basis that it's too screen-based. Likewise I am not prepared to get a Switch.

DD has no requests and likes surprises.

Any ideas would be great!

@stargirl1701 Would she need to use an iPad or computer to write the actual code for the micro bit? I'm slightly confused as to exactly what the micro bit is!

If she doesn’t need anything why not gift an experience. Theatre show/special day out with you (and a friend or just the two of you). London has endless possibilities.

Is Santa still a thing in your house? If not, would she actually appreciate doing something instead. Going on a shopping spree and letting her go a bit wild with what she wants. Or buying a pony trek etc?

How about a camera? My eldest loves mucking about with his go pro (£50 dupe from Aldi)

whats the budget? I know it’s really extra, but it was my birthday present too - I took my eldest on a city break.

@Flossyts Santa is definitely still a thing! And DD would definitely hate a day of shopping. But I like the idea of an experience gift. We got her a meerkat feeding experience at London Zoo for her birthday so something like that might be good.

Does she like Harry Potter? When mine was this age - and a HP aficionado - she got a Kano Harry Potter coding kit to code a magic wand

8 year old DS has a Yoto which he’s had about 5 years and still loves it! There’s great your own cards and also lots of interesting fact type ones (the human body, space, sea etc)
as soon as he gets up in the morning he puts the Yoto daily radio on while he gets dressed. It’s my best ever buy for longevity
