So far I have got:

10 gifts for my partner (£84) plus 5 stocking gifts (£7)

10 gifts for my 3 year old (£49) plus 7 stocking gifts (£7)

4 gifts for my mum (£5)

1 gift each for my partners nieces (£1.59 each)

1 gift for my child’s friends sibling (£3.50)

I’m not finished shopping for any of them yet and I’ve still got my dad, my grandma, a few friends, my child’s friend (maybe more than one depending on how his friendships grow in the next few months), my partners parents and grandparents who I will most likely have to help with ideas for (🤷‍♀️😂) and my parents cat 😹🐱

10 - 15 for mum £800
4 for everyone else probs £100

JusWunderin · 12/09/2024 22:02

Last year the kids got something like 23 gifts each.
it’s been a complete nightmare all year. Half of it not played with, most of it lost or broken.

we’re toning it down this year. Probably stick to 7-10 gifts each.

4/5 for DH.

2 for nieces.

bravotango · 12/09/2024 22:17

My DH and I do stockings for each other, probably 5-7 items. 2 max for family members. This year we're getting our DS aged 2 about 6 items, his grandparents etc will also get him things.

VictoryOrDeath · 12/09/2024 22:18

I have a budget per person, rather than give a set number of gifts. DS usually ends up with a reasonable number of gifts though, as he doesn't want particularly expensive things yet!

DappledThings · 12/09/2024 22:23

Won't think about it till Advent but not too much think about thank goodness:

DH - nothing, not done Xmas presents for years
DC - 2-3 things each probably. DH is better at presents than me so he'll mostly sort it. Plus stockings of maybe 7 or 8 small things
Parents - charity gift
Brother and wife - ditto
Niece and nephew - one each
PIL - don't know, sometimes we do presents sometimes not. DH's business
SIL and partner - one each probably

DogCEO · 12/09/2024 22:24

It depends what I buy but,

I usually buy my partner about 5-10 things. I've already bought him some tops and a painting.

My kids (teens/adults) usually get 10-20 things each. A mix of tech, clothes, trainers, stuff for their rooms, fragrance

I don't have a budget for my partner and kids, I just get what they ask for or things that I think they'll like.

4 nieces and nephews get 1 or 2 things. I spend around £50 on each.

4 friends I usually buy 1 thing and spend about £80 on each

Friends kids get some cash.

RickiRaccoon · 12/09/2024 22:40

I try and keep it in check.

Husband: 1 thing (could be anything from a nice jersey to a phone).
Two toddlers: 1 big thing each from parents (like a bike) and about 10 small things from Santa (socks, book, chocolate, t-shirt, sunglasses, small toys).

My side of wider family agreed not to do presents except for kids and so just do a Secret Santa among those attending. My 2 nephews get a book or the rough equivalent in $ in their bank account. My husband handles his side which is usually food hampers and alcohol.

Numbersarefun · 12/09/2024 22:42

1 each unless I was giving someone eg a garden fork and then might add a packet of seeds.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/09/2024 22:47

???
DC (grown-up) 2 or 3, they always got 2 or 3, they just don't get a stocking nowadays
DIL: 2
DD's BF: 1
DH: 2
Mother: 2
Step: 1
MIL: 1

I hate wrapping!

Ponderingwindow · 12/09/2024 22:51

Most people on my list get 1 gift.

dh will get 1 main gift and then I will fill his stocking. The number of items varies by size and price.

dc it depends on if there is an expensive gift. She gets a stocking and then anywhere from 2 to maybe 8 items.

YuliaJollyberry · 13/09/2024 03:48

Great nieces/nephews/cousins thrice removed, family friend children - 1 wrapped gift contains a book plus either a toy, craft or something to wear. Between £10-30 depending on family group.

Relatives/close family friends - 1 gift per household to share either something to eat or drink or plant/flowers. We aim for around £30 ish. Will be ordered online late November and sent direct sometime in December.

Best friend has 2 gifts this year (£30) and her family 1 each (£15).

Extended family/friends pets - 1 each (£1.50 this year).

Parents/in laws
Varies usually aim for 3 -5 plus 1 to share. No budget.
Pil’s have 5 each this year and 7 to share, dh organised, if there was a budget it’d be over 🙄

Sil - varies, no budget. Not organised yet.

Friends - 1 bag per household containing consumables, different each year, it’s usually 2-5 items, we aim for around £30. Will decide this year’s offering late November.

Santa sorts the immediate household 😂 (all adults, no budget) an overstuffed stocking plus 3 gifts under the tree.

GreenTeaLikesMe · 13/09/2024 03:54

The kids get a few things each, and my nieces will get vouchers. Everyone else just gets a card! Xmas is simpler when you stop doing gifts for adults.

Lidlisthebusiness · 13/09/2024 06:42

I don't have a set amount of gifts, but aim to get all 5 children the same quantity, whatever that works out to be.
Husband gets about 5, depending what I find for him.
2 x parents usually have around 4 each.

And that's all I buy for. I do get more for the children myself than a lot seem to do, because we and my parents are the only ones that gift them anything.

PicturePlace · 13/09/2024 08:39

We get 7-8 each for the kids, plus a stocking with maybe 8 small things in each. My partner gets 4-5 gifts. My mum and dad get 3-4 things each. Nieces and nephews get 2 things each.

I also hate wrapping but order presents online which include a wrapping service.

Flubadubba · 13/09/2024 14:09

DD: it depends what I see! I live buying for 5 year olds. Always a stocking full.of small bits from Santa that she thinks I would never buy her plus a present pile from us. Usually end up overbuying.

DH: I do him a stocking plus a small present pile.

D Nieces/Nephews: usually spend about £15-20, so can be small things (baby) or something bigger. Eldest DN gets a gift voucher as she is awkward and prefers that.

DM and DF:usually a big gift each (c £40)
DB and DSIL: we agree not to buy, but usually exchange food gifts anyway

DPIL/DSILs/DBILs: we do secret santa, usually c.£30

I usually also get a token gift for my direct reports at work and boss.

Oh...and I do my own stocking (things I see and like) and also help DD get gifts for me and DH (usually c £10 each and we make a day of it and have a nice lunch together as well)

Starlight40 · 13/09/2024 16:26

I have a budget rather than a set amount of presents but if I think my daughter (10) has enough presents I don’t buy anymore.
