St. Eval Advent Calender

Did anyone get this last year? Was it worth the money? Love a candle but £44 for 24 tea lights does seem steep...

Great minds think alike- I have just been looking at it and wondering exactly the same thing. St Eval tealights are sold at 9 for £10 so roughly £1 each. The advent calendar is almost twice that (24 for £44). It does let you test 24 fragrances and find new favourites, but then there will also inevitably be some that you don't want or don't like....I'm tempted but will take a chance and see if it gets reduced later as at present it is obviously overpriced (yet priced just under the rate for free shipping, so would need an extra purchase to get it over the limit, which means in reality the spend to get the AC will be £50+). But maybe others will come along to say they've loved it!

On the Christmas Chronicles preamble thread there are a few people who have St. Eval candles. Pop in and ask - I'm sure they'll be happy to give you a recommendation (or not).

St Eval candles are nice, but I don’t really see the point of tea lights, they aren’t big enough to actually emit much smell. I wish they did wax melts.

It’s just occurred to me that they are similar sizes but for some reason wax melts seem to smell much more?!

LoveHartnett · 09/09/2024 06:49

Thanks all, I was sucked in but do think that it's overpriced for tea lights. Definitely agree wax melts are more fragrant.

I think I'd rather buy a nicer bigger candle than 24 tiny ones

Ah I was hoping there would be a thread on this.
I wonder how likely it is to be discounted ?

GreenShady · 14/09/2024 10:04

Or are there other, more bargainous yet great smelling advent calendars out there? Not bothered about Yankee, I've had those before.

EternallyDelighted · 14/09/2024 10:11

I had some tealights last year (regular on the CC threads) they didn't throe much scent so unless you use them in a very small room I'd say one big one is better especially if you find a stockist to sniff them all in (a local to me independent gift shop sells them). The scents are lovely though, I've just sniffed one of my leftover ones.

I love St Eval candles but I got the Aldi candle advent calendar for my DM last year and she loved it - fortunately as DP and I drove a 120 mile round trip especially to get it as a surprise for her (no Aldis in NI 😄). They were actual mini candles, not tea lights - they were in little coloured glass jars (votives?) and all the scents were lovely. It was really nicely done, looked more expensive than it was imo, and she still has a few of the candles left as there's so much burn time out of each one. I'll definitely be driving to Letterkenny again this year if they do it.

I also got the Aldi one last Christmas, lovely but as they were votives lasted for ages so they all didn’t get used so still have box full of them. I’m so not sure I’d go for it again. Going for an advent candle instead this year.

Thanks everyone!

I got it last year as I like the brand and wanted to find out my favourite fragrances. I agree it's a bit pricey, even though they are nice quality. At least it's a one off. My favourites ended up being geranium, vintage rose, sweet pea and winter thyme for Christmas

OrchardDoor · 17/09/2024 11:28

I only buy diffusers, tea lights or wax melts (wax melts not from st eval)
