Do your DC still believe? Older Primary age

Do your older primary-aged DC still believe in Santa / Father Christmas? DS(9) has made a few comments for the past couple of years about it being a fairy story and has now said he doesn’t want to visit a Santa/FC this year as ‘that’s for 3yo.’

He hasn’t outright said he doesn’t believe but I guess he’s wavering. I mentioned this to SIL in a general conversation about Christmas recently and she really snapped at me that she hopes DS doesn’t tell her DD(8).

Yes same. She's questioned but I think that's normal anyway.
When she's asked me before about when Santa stops bringing presents I've just been non-commital and said I don't know 😂

Oh, absolutely. Haha, that's what I said too, something like "ohhh, I don't know if he ever stops delivering because you get older.. OMG this song is great, let's turn it up".

I'm just super happy I've been able to keep the jig up for this long to be honest. Kids lose their innocence so quickly these days and it's nice to see they still have some magic in them.

I personally wouldn’t say anything BUT I did buy this amazingly lovely letter to explain how Christmas magic works. It’s beautful if you do decide to go down that route.

My 7.5 year old still totally believes in santa and the tooth fairy. She is quite a sweet, naive 7.5 year old though. I would say 9/10 is when then normally stop believing it's sad it seems to be getting much younger.

DS was 10 (year 6) last Christmas and was already wavering and testing me eg the year before he had tested me by writing an extra letter to santa and didn't know I had intercepted. But he asked me direct straight after C hristmas having spotted a gift that he then received in the car boot, and I told him the truth as I thought it would be mortifying for him to go to secondary as a believer. DS2 is 8 though and a believer still though I reckon this will be his last year.

Can you let me know about this letter please?

Mine is 10. Very nearly 11.
She's still talking about Santa like she believes.
Although I did wonder at this stage if she's just saying that? But she's never voiced any doubts herself let's put it that way.
But then she does still play babies with her friend. (I'm not sure how many 10 year olds are like this or not like this)

That’s precious. Too many grow up too quickly.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/05/2025 23:30

My 11 yo claims to believe but I’m not sure he really does! I think he wants me to play along because he doesn’t want to let go of it.

That said, I don’t think my Mum ever outright admitted to us that Santa doesn’t exist! Like almost a superstition.

Last xmas the older 2 believed, but my now 12 year old i think defo knows hes not real but just keeps it up, she will make wee comments or smile if its spoken about so i think she knows, DD now 11 im not so sure.
