I'm sure this has been asked a million times but are Balsam Hill trees worth the money? I've wanted one for years. I'm worried I'll be wasting £300.

Imo, yes they are worth it. They look great and on my prelit tree I have different light options - warm white, rainbow a mix and different brightness levels too.

ABirdsEyeView · 05/09/2024 18:30

I bought one in the sales - could you hold out for those?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 05/09/2024 18:38

It is in the sale. I don't know if it'll come down further.

I swore I'd never have a "false" tree but had to get one a few years ago. So went with a Balsam Hill.

It fantastic- looks amazing. It kills me to say it but I think it looks better than any real tree I ever had and it has the added benefit of not regulalry falling over and smashing all my carefully arranged decs!

The only downside is they are a pain to put away. You really need to wrap the branches round each other and squash them down other wise they take up sooooooo much room!

I have 2, the Berkshire Mountain Fir with lights and a lit Winter Birch twig tree. I got them both in the sale and I absolutely love them especially the twig tree which looks stunning.

Very high quality and great customer service.

We have 2 BH trees ones a Fraser pre lit , can’t remember what the other one is . I’ve looked at lots of trees in garden centres , John Lewis etc and not seen anything comparable.

EverybodyLTB · 06/09/2024 07:58

I’ve had a BH tree for 4-5 years now, and it makes Christmas so much easier now that I’m a lone parent, no way could I drag this size of tree in and out by myself. Also the last year I bought a real full size tree it cost a fortune and that was driving outside London to get it, so it’s probably paid for itself within 4 years. I buy a small potted real one for my kitchen, (seems I can’t let completely go of my love of the real thing), as that’s where you first come in the house and settle. I have a good big under stairs cupboard that the Christmas decs go in, and my 7ft tree isn’t too much trouble to squash down back in there.

I'm about to put mine on eBay as it looked rubbish. Am I missing a trick?

Which one did you get?

Are you fluffing it properly? Honestly I love mine, but they do need a good fluff! If you follow the videos on how to fluff it all out then they're unmatched in quality and look imo (the gloves are worth a purchase for this reason!).

It's an alpine 6ft. Customer service sent me videos of how to fluff it correctly. I gave up and have had real trees since.

Twilightstarbright · 06/09/2024 14:18

I adore mine!

ABirdsEyeView · 06/09/2024 19:47

I must admit I do really love mine too. I went for one of the narrow, 'sparse' looking ones rather than a big bushy tree - it's very realistic looking. Even in the sales and not being massive, it was expensive but I think if you're going to use it every year, it pays for itself really, not least in the effort saved re getting and disposing of a real tree.
If you can afford it, then it's worth the money imo.

MrsElf · 06/09/2024 23:23

I love mine, it’s been up 4 years (“it’s a corner light, DH, honestly”) and I play with the remote control lights several times a week. Looks real, doesn’t drop needles, the dogs crash through the lower branches frequently but I fluff it out again when I hoover and it’s still looking amazing. Got it in July, I was a bit worried about the price even then, but totally worth it. It’s a pre lit European Fir.

Only if they actually deliver them. I ordered one in November a few years ago with a promised delivery date and it didn't arrive. Had to go and buy one last minute in the end. I had been holding out having been given multiple alternative delivery dates but gave up. Customer service was shit.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 06/09/2024 23:38

I have a flat back - half a tree from BH. Trying to work out how old it is. I reckon at least 10 years. Still looks great and the lights still work.
