Spa break with 12 year old?

Ilovelurchers · 02/09/2024 20:47

I'd really like to get my lovely daughter a spa break for the two of us for Christmas - she is only 12 though and I know a lot of places only cater for over 16s. Not so bothered about treatments as such (unless they were a good deal) but would like somewhere we could both use the spa facilities, and that we could stay over for at least one night, maybe have a nice meal? ( I am confident she would enjoy this). Not even sure whether it is possible, or whether there would always be age restrictions on spa facilities? I have tried to Google but got a bit confused by conflicting answers, and places which seemed to be advertised for teens but then weren't....

We are based in West Midlands but happy to travel. Not rich by any means, but this will be her main Christmas present so flexible on price to an extent (a bargain would be great obviously).

Just wondered if anyone can help suggest anywhere? Thank you!

Most are 16 plus sorry we were looking but dd2 15 and the nice ones I found 16 plus. Would she really enjoy a spa though ? It’s quite a grown up thing to do lots of lying around and reading having treatments etc.

Hello,
I’ve taken my daughter to the Pan Pacific Hotel in London. You can enjoy spa treatments with your daughter and its by Bonpoint so all their lovely products and smells amazing! Their products are catered for children too. My daughter really enjoyed it. You have access to the swimming pool and I think there’s afternoon tea too that you can book. If you type in Pan Pacific Bonpoint Spa you’ll find all the information, it’s for children 6 onwards.

Perhaps something like this:

Spa breaks often have age limits, these type of breaks don't always.

You can use the pools and other areas, possibly get manicures or something depending on the age limit. I know it comes with prosecco but if you found somewhere suitable they might change it to a non-alcoholic drink.

Thanks for all the response so far! Really kind of you to take the time. Will check out those recommendations as soon as I get the chance.

Brooklands hotel used to do an under 16 spa day.
it really is a beautiful hotel.
more so if you like motorsport

The Swan in the the Lake District. OK, it's a bit spenny but totally worth it. We just splashed out on a spa weekend in one of the loft suites for our anniversary weekend and it was gorgeous.

(Forgot to say- there is a spa which is 16+, however there is another spa in the main building with spa, hot tub, sauna and steam room- so all of the same facilities as the over-16 spa except for the garden.)

More great ideas - The Swan looks beautiful! Is the spa at the Brooklands definitely open to understand 16s? I can't find an answer on their website. (Can always ring them if you are not sure). Again, looks amazing. This will be a gift for me too!!!!

@Ilovelurchers please post back with your findings as this is something my DD would love too!

Lake District hotel that allows over 12s in the spa/does treatments over 12.

Some of the rooms have a balcony, hot tub, steam room and sauna in them so that’s an option.

noscoobydoodle · 03/09/2024 19:27

Hazelwood castle in tadcaster allow under 16s in the spa but aren't allowed certain treatments or to use the steam room. They do offer mani and Pedi for u16s. It's a pretty spectacular location too.

I seem to recall the gym (David Lloyd/ virgin) offering spa days as well

It used to be on their website as a mum and daughter spa package, I can see they’ve got teen time, which is broadly the same. You might need to give them a call.

Ye Olde Bell near Doncaster do tween nights. It's a lovely spa

Thanks so much guys - loads of brilliant recommendations - really kind of you to take the time to post. Will look into some of them over the next few days and report back with anything I find - and any more suggestions welcome of course!

I emailed some of the recommendations and have heard back from the following:

The Swan - she could only use the pool, none of the spa things. (Does look like an amazing hotel though!)

Brooklands - offers a lot but for 13+ - I am toying with the idea of saving this as a treat for her birthday, and maybe doing a London theatre break for Christmas, which we have done before and enjoyed.

Ye Olde Bell do Tween days with a variety of different deals - they have a couple of dates in October - they said there will be more next year but they haven't released them yet. It did seem somewhat pricey tho - for example £130 just for the two of us to have three hours spa time, no treatments, no food, no stay. It does look lovely, so that may represent good value, but I do really want something that ties a stay in as they seem to be slightly better value.....

I am still waiting to hear from a few others and still have a few to contact - I will report back when I learn anything else.

All this looking at spa brochures is making me desperate for a spa break!

Following with interest. I was thinking about booking a spa day for SiL and nieces Christmas, they will be 14 and 15. Maybe not as straightforward as I thought it would be!

I went to a fab spa with dd who was about 10 at butlins in Bogner Regis. I was so surprised by how amazing it was. It had a snow room 😂

Just had a quick Google and their spa does look really nice fun! We've never been to a Butlins but I imagine we might have fun with some of the other entertainment and activities too - a bit different from the luxurious hotel experience I was imagining, but maybe my daughter would enjoy it more.....

Worth exploring - thank you!

This was back in 2017 so may have changed but I'm also west midlands based and me and my friend had a joint spa 'party' at the Lea Marston hotel, we were all 12/13 and had access to the pool, sauna, steam room and also had a treatment. It was absolutely beautiful as it was of the evening in winter
