Wreath for front door

I am very excited because we are buying a beautiful oak front door from a reclamation place. It's going to be so gorgeous and we have lived with an ugly white UPVC thing for 4 years.
I would love to have a Christmas wreath this year, (I might even make it myself) but I don't want to put fixings on the front of my pristine new door, what are the options for fixing something on the inside that goes up and over the top?
Do any of them work well?

I have wreaths all year round! Change them each season, lovely ones on Etsy !

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg,
Yes, we are lucky here, and there are all kinds of workshops. An open garden showed us how to do a Christmas hand tied posy, and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. And the cake.
Thing is, my Mum, was very superstitious, and would not have wreaths, and I think my family would look askance at me if I hung one, so I am trying my hand at a swag this year.
A proper swag, unlike last year's pile of cones and greenery pretending to be a swag, but not connected up.

@gardenmusic do you have any National Trust places near you? They often run wreath making courses. I've just checked the website and couldn't find any listed yet but it's probably worth checking periodically. Not cheap, but the two I've done have been well run and a lovely festive occasion.

Alternatively you can buy a "wreath in a box" kit from Etsy or there are YouTube videos if you buy/forage all the gubbins independently.

Cheaper than NT places will be florists themselves. Many independent and wedding florists do wreath making as it is their quiet part of the year. Google and FB are your friends here.

My friend is a florist and does a mix of NT and private wreath classes. Her NT ones are almost twice the cost because of the cut the NT takes.

I'd also recommend a sustainable class using moss and a wooden structure. It's a lovely thing to do, highlight of my December.

That must look lovely, I think Autumn would be my favourite

I am blessed with Gubbins. It's a productive garden that gets a lot of windfalls from a park, too. I like natural things so I dry a few flowers, too.

I use cable ties to attach it to my door knocker

SkiingIsHeaven · 02/06/2024 23:26

Make sure you don't have the moss at the back touching the wood or it will stain.

We ended up pinning some dark green plastic sheeting on the back to stop that from happening.

A good idea to deter any light fingered opportunists, too.

I don’t recommend over door hangers as they can mark the door. Command hooks need replacing regularly or they dry up and leave yellow marks. But if you take it down and change it regularly it will be fine. You could add one or two smaller ones to hold the bottom of the wreath in place, if it’s exposed to wind.

For Christmas I use a thick red ribbon looped over the door, tied to a command hook on the back with a smaller swag to cover the hook and knot inside.

Max28W · 14/06/2024 09:16

The trick with the Command Hook is to hang it upside down at the back of the door then tie with ribbon I use one of the larger ones.

It's June!!!!!

And yet you clicked on the Christmas thread?
Embrace it or go away.

It's still June

gardenmusic · 14/06/2024 12:26

SnowFrogJelly

Gosh aren't you clever! We hadn't realised that!

You had better post on all the Christmas posts and let them know it's only June. It will take you a while, as there are so many. I'm sure they will appreciate it.

Whatever are we thinking?

SnowFrogJelly · 14/06/2024 12:52

I'm only joking..

Will not open any more Xmas threads till December

Lavenderandbrown · 14/06/2024 12:55

@Max28W has it right. Hang wreath from a ribbon loop. Put command hook upside down on the inside of door and loop ribbon around it. I use them all…over the door hangers magnetic circle and command hooks. I like the dark brown command hook. I have hung a wreath since I was 27 in first apartment winter spring summer fall I make many of them and repurpose flowers and grapevine wreaths from year to year. And I as I drive by I look at my door each time😚

gardenmusic · 14/06/2024 13:00

Lavender,
Can you feel my envy??
I bet it's beautiful.

Stompythedinosaur · 14/06/2024 13:07

I use a command hook, it doesn't leave a mark.

Ilovemyshed · 14/06/2024 13:10

I hang mine from the door knocker with thick ribbon.

gardenmusic · 14/06/2024 13:28

Ilovemyshed,
Has no one ever tried to pinch it?
I live in a cul de sac of retired elderlies, and my neighbour had hers taken
