Adult stocking filler ideas - all year round!

If you're anti Christmas until December or don't agree with stockings for adults, please scroll past.

Our adult children absolutely refuse not to have Christmas stockings, it wouldn't be Christmas without them apparently. Their main present is either something they've asked for or cash. I try to get a couple of other small gifts I know they'd like as a surprise but stockings are here to stay.
I know people have different approaches to stocking fillers, here are the criteria for ours:

Small enough to fit in a stocking (shop bought type not a sock).
Anywhere from 0 - £5 per gift (£0 could be a perfume/aftershave sample)
Must be practical, fun or consumable to avoid wastage.
Can be pre-owned (eg like-new books from a charity shop).
Usual ideas are foodstuffs, snacks, toiletries, DIY bits n bobs, stationery items. All get used but a bit dull, another reason for not leaving it too late to think of things.

I keep a 'Christmas note' on my phone and note ideas all year round. Generally I won't buy until later in the year, it's the ideas that are difficult. I sometimes pick up on things in conversation and add to the note to buy later (eg DS1's girlfriend mentioned how much she loved a certain chocolate bar - now in the list).
Obviously if I spot something that I probably wouldn't be able to get again - something unique or a real bargain, I will buy when I see them but don't go actively looking. Sometimes they are things I stumble across (I recently bought a trolley coin in aid of a charity one of my DCs supports when there was a stall in a service station).

Just been ordering a couple of slimline European usb adapters to take on holiday (see pic) and have ordered a few extra as stocking fillers. Which is what prompted me to start this thread. By starting early, collecting ideas even if not buying, I think you do so with a clearer mind and end up with better stocking fillers than leaving the thinking til December when there is so much else going on.
Not sure if anyone else will be interested in this thread but just in case, would be good to share ideas or things that you've seen that are not the usual everyday items.
I'd appreciate it we could keep this thread for adults stockings only please

Over on Christmas Table Favours there is a lovely imaginative christmas sleigh.
I would love to put this in a child's stocking, if I could keep the bits together.

I don't know how to drag it here, or if I am allowed!
Apologies, for stealing your post, Stiffy, but this is too good to miss.

I was telling a friend about these sleighs for her grandschildren. Got me thinking that there is no reason I shouldn't sit a sleigh on top of my adult children's stockings. Pic attached for anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about.

Also for a school fair, I once did a load of decorated chocolate bars. Aimed at children but again, no reason you couldn't use them for adult stockings. I've added a few pics but Google for more - they range from very simple to more intricate if that's your thing.

They are brilliant, OMGitsnotgood
I think even I could do the snowman.

Honestly, I'm not on commission, but the Barnardo's charity website has a sale on, just picked up a £6 William Morris scarf and 10 Christmas cards for £2.
Lots of non-tut stocking fillers around the £5 mark.
You do have postage, though at £2.95.

My cheese making kit arrived today. Perfect for the cheese obsessed teen and for my lovely friends who I do cheese and wine evenings with. 😁

YorkieTheRabbit · 27/08/2024 22:21

@PramsEar would you mind sharing where you got the cheese making kit?
It could be an idea for an upcoming birthday.

OMGitsnotgood · 27/08/2024 22:28

Thank you @gardenmusic . I didn't realise they sold such a wide variety of things. I've had a quick look, will have a closer look at the weekend. It's great to be able to support a good cause.
I've bought chocolate and coffee from Oxfam as stocking fillers in the past, plus diaries back when we used paper diaries.

It was another poster on here or maybe on the pre Christmas thread that alerted me to the cheese making kit.

Heres the one I went for - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beginners-Cheese-Making-Kit-Mozzarella/dp/B00GW08P54/ref=mpsa17?crid=2OYPEVY3TDL23&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.eKXGocI4NeXQF9oDM4HZhuOFG8FziYoAddDuLFVNG8OppdVONJR59peU1mU0D11Yadw18QH2IPlnmkp5TIE5kQMb95KcqJLcFsDYNfLYMP7eBbew8owJv9nhPGzJaVsYh1h7O4QUDxVPRu575XqpTw5hBw4xZbAR6YfKO23Ffa5RV3SUtkS1-TNZvEkIArZtpEh7gWPiOwiXvMkFQ.j01FBL6NsXTJx66kRn4tb35upFIdAq8K-VgvFwX89o&dibtag=se&keywords=cheese+making+kit&qid=1724796322&sprefix=cheese+making+%2Caps%2C75&sr=8-7

This! Best thing in my stocking last year - long silicone spoon with bendy spoon head so you can scrape things out of packets and your ninja blender glass etc.

Where do I find one of these? Don't seem to be searching successfully...

EDITED

I see my question has been answered just above mine 😂

Just been to Mand S:
Cherry brandy liquer 35cl, elerflower liquer 35cl, creme de cassis 35cl all £5
Orange brandy liquer 35cl £7.
Tall thin bottles would go in a stocking. Probably best to check if travelling any distance.

Thanks @Myamoth got a good few bits from here Smile

Loving all the Christmas ideas from everyone, all so good & handy 😊👍

What a great thread!!

A few years ago we asked everyone in the family for their kitchen and bathroom staples. I.e. DH and I enjoy a chilli flake but that's not to everyone's tastes. So now we have a list of the sort of thing people use often and if we see a nice version of that then buy it for stockings. Olive oils and balasmics feature a lot, different flavoured salts that sort of thing. Mostly fit in a stocking.

OMGitsnotgood · 09/09/2024 09:25

That's a great idea @notanarchaeologist. Olive oil is a good one for this year given how expensive it is at the moment

If anyone is near a Sainsbury's, it's worth taking a look down the health and beauty aisles as they have quite a lot of clearance products at the moment. I managed to get some bath bombs (down from £10.00 to £2.50) 5 packs of essential oil rollerballs (£10.00 to £2.50) and some nice soaps on wooden dishes (£6 to £1) yesterday which will pad out my Mums stocking nicely

gardenmusic · 09/09/2024 11:26

Bought another £5 elderflower liquer 35cl from Marks today - still other liquers at £5 - stunned they are still there!
