What size Christmas tree do you (usually) have and roughly how many baubles and ornaments do you adorn it with?

We have an 8ft real tree in the living room and a 6ft artificial tree in the kitchen/dining space. Lots of baubles which used to be strategically placed but since having a child it’s less organised.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 30/03/2024 16:24

7ft artificial (am allergic to real), have maybe 30 baubles. I would like to say less us more but then someone (not me) puts tinsel all over it!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/03/2024 16:30

My answer will be No Use Whatsoever as I cannot have a tree since we got the cats as they climb and chew it .

But when we did it was a pre-lit 7' fake with a heavy trre stand (cast iron) star .
Baubles ranged from biggist (tennis ball sized) to tiny and loads of lights , Even though it was pre-lit it needed another three strings.
We have one of those big plastic storage boxes for baubles layered with bubbble wrap

First year with the cats we had no baubles and static lights. Didn't stop them.

I won't say "Christmas Trees .....in MARCH . Is this A Thing" because :
You can discuss Christmas all year in the Christmas Threads

It's never too early to plan.

Our main tree is 7’ ( may be 7’6” ) and I guesstimate at least 70/80 ornaments of various shapes and sizes , we don’t do tinsel . Our 5’ stick tree has 30+ Swarovski Christmas ornaments on it .

KottuKottuKottu · 30/03/2024 18:14

Oh goodness, I am well over the limit for baubles....

Main tree artificial 9.5 feet(24 years old still perfect) around 300 at least with 4 sets of lights 500 each set, so 2000...oops!

I'm guessing you don't have cats ...or if you do I am Xmas Envy that they are well behaved enough to let your tree be in peace !

KottuKottuKottu · 31/03/2024 08:32

A photo would be so identifying I have some very specific decs!

No you guessed right 70 no kittys.

PotatoPudding · 31/03/2024 08:35

6’ artificial. Only enough baubles for the sides of the tree that face the room. We don’t have any coordinating decorations, which I love. It’s all stuff DS has chosen or made over the years.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 31/03/2024 08:36

We have either fake one or buy a real one of around 6ft/7ft.

Probably 200-300 decs on it.

I'm baffled by the trees of this size that PP are saying they only put around 30 decs on. That's not "less is more" that's like inviting 20 people for a picnic and serving 8 sandwiches!

FartingAgainstThunder · 31/03/2024 08:39

We get a real tree between six and seven feet tall.
3000 lights.
Probably around 80 baubles, But that number drops each year due to toddler and cats.

Devilsmommy · 31/03/2024 08:40

7ft artificial black tree with about 200 blue and silver baubles

Loubelle70 · 31/03/2024 08:44

I live in a cottage so its small...i have 6.5ft tree... but turn top down, so 6ft..i have 2000 lights..it sounds lots but i like lights. I also have around 300 tree decs. I like a full tree.

Vicliz24 · 31/03/2024 08:50

5ft artificial tree but 800 lights on it and a ridiculous amount of baubles/decorations. Then a 6ft artificial in the garden room with the same again. I love Christmas decorations.

Igmum · 31/03/2024 09:04

6 ft artificial tree with shedloads of mismatched baubles. I buy two new (often posh) baubles a year - when I moved into my current house 25 years ago I was horrified at the price of nice baubles so decided on two a year (sometimes more 😈). Love the idea of loads of strings of different lights

KottuKottuKottu · 31/03/2024 10:05

For those who dont have a 'theme' or colour for baubles, I was on the hunt for years for a glass bauble that I had as a child. My DH bless him found it on Ebay in the States and bought it for me. It gets pride of place dead centre at the top, lights have to be in a certain way to really show it off.

Just though I would share!

NearlyBritishSummertimeYay · 31/03/2024 10:11

I think it's about 5'6' but it stands on a small table, it likes to be seen from outside!!

I put about 35 bright red baubles on it and around 46 million other decorations accumulate over the years!

several traditional light strings and a n angel on the top, which was the family one growing up. I'm more sentimental than stylish 😂😂

fluffycloudalert · 31/03/2024 10:14

We have a 6ft artificial one we've had for a while, and I think we have about 200 lights on it, and I only stop adding baubles and ornaments when every branch has at least one. I spread out the nice ones, and then fill in with cheapos and tiddlers.

CrushingOnRubies · 31/03/2024 18:30

Got a brand new tree last year and google suggested 250 ornaments. But I suppose it depends if you plan on having it in the middle of the room where all angles are in view or it's tucked in a corner where you have just have certain aspects on view.

ShowOfHands · 12/04/2024 22:14

I buy a 7ft real tree, as bushy as possible because we have so many baubles.

We buy the DC one each year for them to have when they move out so that's already 30+, then there are ones they've made, ones I inherited from my Victorian Granny, novelty ones (things like a sloth, a brussel sprout, a vampire bat), Harry Potter collectables, one from every holiday I've been on. A couple of hundred probably.

I also have a tree I inherited and upcycled. I'll try and find a link to my thread about it.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 12/04/2024 22:58

Well Jesus fucking Christ I didn't need to cry this evening!!

How utterly wonderful.

PhoenixReincarnated · 14/04/2024 09:32

@70isaLimitNotaTarget sorry 70 but until last year we had Phoenix Cat who never showed the slightest interest in the christmas tree. A right little madam in other ways but not where the tree was concerned.

We've had artificial and until last year real for about 5/6 years. Roughly between 5 & 6 foot due to only being a small room. No idea of the number of baubles we used to do 3 colours of basic baubles then individual ones. Only 100 lights but I wound them close to the trunk and they reflected on the baubles. Then tinsel/beads and usually a star.

Last year we had DD's kitten who we were convinced would be into the tree like everything else but even then if it had been a normal year I would have said sod it and chanced a real tree even if no baubles, just tinsel. Instead I bought a cheap pre-lit from Argos and turned out to be a good thing. We put it up and left it for kitten to get used to it. Less than 48 hours later he bit threw the wire for the lights 😱 I threw some tinsel on and left it.

gardenmusic · 19/07/2024 18:55

BresciaBike,
Apologies for going slightly off piste, but may I also ask about types of fresh tree?
All I see in this area is Nordman Fir. I did buy a small juniper shrub for the porch last year, and decorate with tiny baubles, but they are not very touch friendly, and I need about 6ft for the lounge.
Any ideas for something different?
As a child we had a very spiky type, that dropped all it's needles very quickly - bare by new year!
