Holy Moly Panettone!!

Having penned a pre-Christmas thread “Panettone, Just a Huge, Dry Cake?” I now stand corrected!

Someone gifted us a said huge, dry cake which was the last of the Christmas goodies and......omg I am now converted to the ways of the Panettone!

I ate mine sliced (although I now think I should have sliced horizontally rather than the demolition-inducing vertical efforts I employed) and toasted with slathers of butter and it was........utterly delectable.

I now have to wait until the next festive season but I will be buying Panettone of all varieties!

Panettone.
I get it.

Wait til you try Pandoro ..much nicer!

merrymelodies · 15/01/2024 11:47

Oh yes! So good. We cut it in slices, like a cake.

DuploTrain · 15/01/2024 11:50

Another vote for slicing like a cake.

I have also been converted this year after being a staunch panettone refuser. Maybe it’s got nicer?

My favourite is chocolate chip panettone though, which I’m aware isn’t “technically” panettone.

There's a moral in there somewhere :)

Panettone bread and butter pudding… you’re welcome

loudbatperson · 15/01/2024 12:15

Panettone french toast.... it's heaven.

EverySporkIsSacred · 15/01/2024 13:01

Sliced and just lightly toasted with a layer of butter for me please 😄

AgentProvocateur · 15/01/2024 13:07

Toasted with clotted cream…. Thank me later.

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 15/01/2024 14:20

They should in theory be nice, but always have an unpleasant synthetic taste.
I’m sure a home-made one would be good.

I don’t like the candied fruit or sultana ones and no to the chocolate chip.
nicest ones I found had lemon curd running through but I haven’t seen them for years. I buy in HomeSense prefer the mini ones.
I ate one before Christmas and still got one. I don’t like butter or bread and butter pudding but the eggy French bread might be on the cards……

shmivorytower · 15/01/2024 21:52

Obviously do what floats your boat. I heard on the radio that the proper way of eating Panettone is to toast and butter it. That might be true for some but Italians slice it like a cake and don’t toast or butter it.

merrymelodies · 15/01/2024 23:30

It's full of fat and sugar so I wouldn't add butter to it personally. It's about 350 calories per 100g, which is considerable. But then who eats panettone if they're counting calories... 😜
