Best/Worst Wrapping Paper

What wrapping paper did you like this year?

What paper did you get that you were disappointed in the quality of?

———————————
I wrap for myself but also for 2 other family members that struggle to wrap.

Gingerbread themed set from Next and wasn’t impressed with it at all. Quite thin and didn’t look half as nice in real life as it did online. The tags weren’t any better. Also bought some red Santa paper from Next and that was great quality.

Had 2 different rolls of extra wide paper from Sainsbury’s and was happy with that for the price.

Going to try and use Kraft paper for mine next year if anyone has any recommendations?

Costco wrapping paper - it's thick, double sided and the designs are lovely. It's a pleasure to wrap with and the only one we have now.

CelticPromise · 28/12/2023 21:00

I had some recycled paper from the RSPB shop which was gorgeous and the right thickness.. No gridlines though so not quite perfect.

HappySonHappyMum · 28/12/2023 21:21

Costco double sided - huge roll lasts forever. Am hoping they'll do some double sided wrap that I can use for Birthday gifts at some point, it's that good.

DragonCatcher · 28/12/2023 21:45

@stargirl1701 how do you secure it? Does tape work?

Did you buy a length of fabric and trim it yourself or did you buy it from somewhere already cut to sizes for individual presents?

I'd love to do this for immediate family atleast but can't get my head around it.

stargirl1701 · 28/12/2023 21:47

I'll post a photo when I get a minute. Some fabric is purpose bought but I tend to pick up a tablecloth in a charity shop and divide it. Just a quick hemming.

Christmasapple · 28/12/2023 21:49

Costco wrap is hands down the best. It lasts forever. It’s not recyclable though I don’t think.

Ive hated the rolls which aren’t packaged in store this year as half of it is ripped before you get it home and the other half falls apart when you try and get the sticky labels off.

PS @HappySonHappyMum birthday wrap exists. I bought some from Costco this summer x

You bring 2 corner together and tie a double knot.

I mostly used the brown paper they use in Amazon deliveries. Not buying rolls of it at great expense when it comes for free! And I like it because it looks more traditional.

stargirl1701 · 28/12/2023 21:56

Then do the same with the other 2 corners.

I add a tag with my child's initial, a bell and we use the want/need/wear/read poem that's hated here on MN.

I must be the only person that likes thin paper! I love the ripability of it and the fact it covers well like tissues paper.

I also like black based paper. I bought WHS paper : black with holly leaves and black with oranges and both looked great under the tree. Not thick or thin and had the grid on the back. Might get more if it’s still on sale.

Best paper ever was Oxfam last year. Printed Kraft paper in dark green and navy. Beautiful and cheap.

MountainChalet · 28/12/2023 22:03

I get my paper in Tķmaxx. Great quality.

we did use paper for any extras

cringingatchristmas · 28/12/2023 22:05

My favourite was from Aldi. Brown paper but with simple prints on. Decent quality, not see-through, cuts easily but doesn't tear and looks more expensive than it is.

fromhellsheartistabatthee · 28/12/2023 22:28

The offcuts from when I last papered a wall have kept me in wrapping paper for years.

HamstersAreMyLife · 28/12/2023 22:50

I usually use brown paper having moved away from m&s 3 years ago but struggled to get hold of it this year so bought a few packs of fabric quarters similar to those i use for birthdays. Also used a lovely pound land paper for bigger items, I bought tonnes a couple of years ago as liked the pattern then topped it up last year. The first year was very thin and the following year thicker but I was concerned as it didn't scrunch well so I'm hoping it was recyclable but it has made me question it so I'm on the hunt for brown paper again for next year. I use ribbon and twine to wrap the fabric and just reserve them for the following year. They do need proper tags though.

Genius. I've used this paper to wrap birthday party "pass the parcel" parcels but I've never thought to use it on actual gifts before.

@SnowJamz, for Kraft paper, as PPs try the charity shops/website eg: Oxfam, RSPB or whoever you support. The Dog's Trust have cute dog designs.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 28/12/2023 23:09

Best - Whistlefish. Thick with lovely original designs. Worst - Emma Bridgewater. Tore if you as much as looked at it.

YAYAY! Will be looking every time I go now - Thanks!

ToastandJamandTea · 28/12/2023 23:10

The best I used this year was from Next in their 342 deal. Worst was the cheap stuff from Asda!

HollyFern1110 · 28/12/2023 23:13

I've never had bad wrap from Lidl. Not the most exciting patterns but a good thick quality.

We also got the stripey one from Asda which looked good.

Bit of nice string (or plain string even) makes it look good. I'm lazy and cheap 😅

Paper from TX Max

Brown paper from Amazon tied with red and white striped twine.

Bags with Glick tissue paper
