Does anyone else enjoy pottering around doing normal chores on Christmas Day?

I do, I find the enforced festivities draining.... I much prefer pottering around, putting in washes. Making sure the house duties just rumble on as normal. Light the fire and candles, create coziness for the kids, and then just trundle through the day in the background, as normal.

I find that less pressurising than forced joviality or movie style eggnog with the neighbiurs/random family members.

Cozy and quiet here. (practical tasks being completed, secretly getting on with life as usual).

Absolutely not . Everything is done , dusted and put away before Xmas eve . I want some time to relax chore free

Yes! Emptied all my wardrobe and only put back stuff which I love, fits and flatters. Two bins bags to go to the charity shop and I can see everything clearly and know I can just grab anything. Yes, I feel as smug as I sound :D

I hate to see things not done so i potter as normal.
Washing and drying done Christmas Day as I prepared dinner.
Ironing done yesterday as i watched a movie.
Hoovered whole house today as I hate mess.
Tomorrow all decorations will be stored away so i can put new toys in toy boxes.
Honestly I wouldn't settle if I was living in mess so I do it to keep me happy nobody else.

Gotta clean up as you go and I chucked a few washes on while I was at it. Low level chores.

Today I have been hoovering and just keeping on top of the kitchen

I was chatting to a guy online and he asked what my hobbies are. I said I’m really in to pottering. He replied ‘Oh pottery, that’s cool’. Um….nope im not that exciting 😂

FestiveFruitloop · 27/12/2023 17:46

Nah. I like doing as little as possible over the festive season. This year Covid has accomplished that for me, which isn't ideal, but I'm taking the opportunity to rest as I very much need it.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 27/12/2023 17:51

Nope. I find chores tedious at the best of times. I certainly don't want to be doing them on Christmas Day! No forced joviality here - just genuine fun with good company.

Hatty65 · 27/12/2023 17:51

I don't particularly enjoy it, but I do find it a useful 'excuse' to get away from a houseful of around 16 people. (My family, mostly)

I tend to empty the kitchen bin, take it out to the dustbin and sit quietly out of sight around the corner of the wall for ten minutes or so. The house feels too full of people and noise.

None of the joviality is forced on Christmas Day in my family. We just love spending special times together.
But if pottering makes you happy, great!

We have a relaxed, quiet family Christmas without the impact of extended family visitors so I don't feel the need to escape or anything.

But I did put a wash on Christmas morning (when nobody else was up) as I'd been busy the couple of days before with LOTS of socialising and I knew it was building up in the basket. I also sorted the bins in readiness for the packaging incoming.

Otherwise it's minimum chores for me.
