Hi all. Just coming on to ask if anyone has spent Christmas away either abroad or in the uk and really enjoyed it. My 2 asd kids really don’t enjoy Christmas and this Christmas has already been hellish and I don’t want to repeat it again next year. They are 7 and 9 and I’m thinking we will go away next Christmas as they do generally enjoy holidays. I was thinking Disney world but we are going there in August so don’t really want to go again in December. Has anyone been anywhere for Christmas that has been amazing?

I think it depends what type of holidays you prefer. We did Christmas and new year in Gran Canaria one year. The weather was lovely in the day but temps dropped at night. They had a big fireworks display at new years that we watched from the hotel balcony. It was Christmas-y but more, palm trees wrapped in lights. I hated it but only because I love Christmas and the year we went it actually snowed here!

DP’s go to Tenerife at Christmas as it one of the shorter flights from the UK that offers pleasant temperatures this time of year. DM said there are lots of churches having midnight mass etc.

Obviously going to a summer holiday destination like these out of season means that some places will be closed up or activities may be limited. DM has told me that some years they’ve had to have the hotel meal as they couldn’t get a restaurant booking anywhere.

Would you consider a cruise? Royal Caribbean have lots of activities for kids and isn’t as in your face Christmas as perhaps a Disney cruise would be. We did a pre-Christmas cruise from Miami with Royal Caribbean and they decorated the ship but the activities weren’t particularly Christmas themed.

Hope you find something that suits your family and that the rest of this Christmas gets a bit better 💐

I really enjoy centre parcs Whinfel Forest, it just oozes Christmas! I know it’s not everyone cup of tea but for children the same ages as yours it’s brilliant! Lots of activities, great pool, nice lodge and it feels so Christmasy and a good chance of snow.

My favourite Christmas was two years ago where 6 adults and 2 dogs hired a very large cottage / home for Christmas from 24th to 28th December.

We had our traditional Christmas Eve meal, Christmas Day we ate out (not very good at all, would cook in next time), Boxing Day we had a walk around the village and a pub lunch, and the following day we went to the beach.

It felt very Christmassy as it was a traditional English Christmas, but also felt like a holiday.

Id love to do something similar next year.

I’ve not thought of a cruise I will definitely look into that. X

Centre parcs is a good idea too. We haven’t been for a couple of years and the kids do really enjoy it. We like active holidays.
