I'm hungover, dh has gone out to the pub and I'm snacky

I've already cracked open a block of chive cheese and the Pringles are snuggled on the settee with me. I have my eye on the Christmas Baileys and mine and ds' classy tea of chicken nuggets and pasta was very nearly replaced with pigs in blankets!

The mince pies, the Baileys and the cheese straws have all already been started upon.

I mean, it's basically Christmas now...

Surely the Baileys is for drinking while you wrap? And mince pies to nibble while you put up decorations and write cards?

In this house, the only things that are off limits are the actual meal components & the special wines, all the snacky stuff can be opened earlier.

I won't replace stuff though, once it's gone it's gone, it doesn't really matter which day it was eaten on.

Can I also say I love the use of the word "snaffled" OP. I'm also rather fond of "scarfed". Don't know why but "scoffed" doesn't quite hold the same charm!

timtam23 · 23/12/2023 23:21

Baileys, mince pies, also started on a big bag of walnuts in their shells. Managed to hide the luxury stollen for now

KohlaParasaurus · 23/12/2023 23:23

The various seasonal flavours of crisps have been well sampled in our house, we've eaten lots of sprouts and chestnuts, and DH thinks 6 mince pies = one portion. We often have Christmas pudding out of season. It's brilliant for refuelling after a long bike ride. I hoover it up when the price is reduced after Christmas.

Baileys, Pringles, peanuts, mince pies and celebration chocolates.

BrimfulOfMash · 23/12/2023 23:27

It’s the Saturday night before Xmas Eve and I am loving sitting by my tree eating the cheese and drinking the port.

Have previously made my way through a couple of boxes of mince pies, After Eights, Bittermints and a gorgeous soft cheese.

MadCatLady27 · 24/12/2023 00:16

Dry roasted peanuts, cheese twists, pringles and some Tony's chocolate 😁

Also trying to work my way through some naff bland cheese shapes that I thought would be like cheddars but have nowhere near the taste, that Asda subbed DH twiglets with - annoyingly he won't eat them!

ladygindiva · 24/12/2023 00:16

Tube of pringles and four ready mixed cans of gin and tonic

ladygindiva · 24/12/2023 00:17

Oh and a bag of cheeselets earlier this afternoon.

I think of scoffed as greedy and scarfed as 'enjoyed with haste'. No idea why there's a difference in my head.

Why do so many of you like Pringles though? My kids do too and they're like sweet and savoury weirdness to me, I can eat a grab bag of cheese balls though

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/12/2023 11:31

One little pork pie, half a tub of taramasalata and some Christmas cake 😊

I agree, and I wasn't going to buy them this year and then I saw them at 2 for £3 in Morrisons so that went down the pan as usual 🤣

They are unarguably foul, but I can still do in a couple of tubes over Christmas and NY alongside all the sensible crisps 😀

I’m having to rethink “nibbles on arrival” tomorrow as we’ve polished off the smoked salmon canapés and blinis this morning.

Also these are highly addictive, I ate the last bag to myself, I’m having to share this one.
