Hello all, we're hosting dpil This year so Christmas dinner will be the most people I've ever cooked a roast for (5 including DH, me and ds I know that's not many but I've been spoilt with Sunday dinners at the in-laws for about 18 years now!). Mil will be hands on to help but she's recovering from an op and I want her to be able to relax and enjoy Xmas!

Food for lunch listed below, there anything out of the following I can prep the night before? Ive looked online but it all seems to be freezer recipes and I want more "can I peel and cut spuds and keep in water overnight? How far in advance can I make the Yorkshire batter?":

Chicken (will check temp and time, will get out of freezer on 23rd - anything more than butter and bacon on top? Few sprigs of rosemary? I've only ever cooked breasts before!)

Ham (bought a joint ready to go so this is fine)

Roast potatoes in goose fat

Yorkshire puddings (DH will make the batter but when?)

Brussel sprouts (par boiled then fried with bacon butter and chestnuts)

Carrots/green beans (may be fancy and stick the carrots in with the roasts)

Pigs in blankets (party food style, can bung in oven)

Stuffing balls (mil making)

Then I've got salt, pepper, cranberry sauce, bread sauce, onion marmalade, gravy

Mil sorting desserts. Melon and Parma ham or stuffed potato skins to start so they're easy.

Am I missing anything? I started trying to write a timings list but got overwhelmed so... Stopped! Think we will eat around half 1.

I make my Yorkshire puddings in advance and freeze them. They can then be cooked from frozen in just a few minutes.

Parsnips?

Yes sprouts can be prepped and potatoes kept under water - lose vitamins but for one day that's fine

I don't think you need to though

What I would do the day before is work out quantities - like get 5 or 10 spuds out waiting , 5 carrots, 5 sprouts per person and the pans and trays that you will use - check everything fits in the oven , work out what ring for what pan. What veg might share a pan. You can cook gravy first as it stays really hot for example . Are you platiing up or do you have dishes lined up ready ?

Veggies for 5 shouldn't take half an hour to prep

Don't panic but do write your times and work out what temp your oven will be ( because everything has different best temperatures) but it's best hot for the yorkshires and potatoes so put the other bits below them and keep a sharp eye on them
