Just laid everything out and she hasn't got much compared to her brother. Any ideas welcome please. Shes very girly. She's got a camera from GP's. I've got her a couple of Barbie bits and a doll for doing hair but desperately need some ideas please! 🙏🏻

Baking set, art supplies, play doh

Second the squishmallow. It was on ds3's list (6) and it was £20 in Argos which I thought was expensive for a stuffed toy. But they're all the rage and bloody hell it's huge! Takes up half his Christmas sack.

Marvin's magic pens or some similar name. The pens do all different things, colour change, wipe other pens out, have a special light to read them with etc

My 5 yr old between ger recent birthday and Christmas has or is getting:

Hair chalk
Ponies/unicorns (there's a paint your own one that looks fun)
Barbie colour change in the bath
Board games (Guess Who, Uno, Floor is Lava etc)
Pretty hair things
Books
Squishmallow
Hama beads
Rock painting kit
Jewelry making kit
Sticker books (Usborne ones are great)
Dress up clothes
Character bedding (Bluey)

It’s strange how similar most five-year-old girls seem to be.

DD’s current favourites include:

Polly Pockets
Pusheen
Squishmallows
Unicorns
My Little Pony
Frozen
Moana
Bluey
Anything involving gems - a set which involved excavating “jewels” from “rocks” was a favourite
A set for mixing “potions”
Slime, especially glittery slime
Lego
Craft sets e.g. jewellery-making
Magnets

Also Guess Who? and Hungry Hippos

Sorry to say that I find all this highly gendered stuff for age 5 very sad. Girly at 5 😔 before they should even notice differences.

Redwinesalt · 21/12/2023 23:48

Hair crayons

Redwinesalt · 21/12/2023 23:50

Excavation kits. Asda great for cheap stuff like that

Mine LOVED vehicles as a toddler, whilst one of her friends was really into dinosaurs. But they do get influenced by various things.

At nursery, DD started to be influenced by the other girls when she was about three. One day, a child’s older sister popped in. She was a Big Girl of six and had nail varnish and lip gloss. DD was so taken with her, that she started pretending a mini tube of bubble mixture was lip gloss and would “paint” her lips with the wand.

Art stuff - books, charcoal, paints, pencils.
Dress ups.
Book set.
Scooter.

@ActuallyChristmas I think people play it pretty safe on these threads unless there is specific detail about the child's interests - the equivalent boy's thread has lots of car-related suggestions. My 6 year old daughter loves maths books, science kits and stuff to build with, but for a girl I didn't know, I would suggest more 'obvious' stuff.

Actually the health visitor expects them to know the sexes at their 2 year check.
