Toy for DD (6)

DD wrote her letter to Father Christmas and I was hoping to be pointed towards a toy to get. All she asked for was 'a book' and some particular colouring pencils. So now this is what I've got her:

From Father Christmas:
National Geographic Kids Atlas
The requested colouring pencils
Horse Academy game from Smart Games
Stocking (hairbrush, hair things, pencil case, bike lights, fiction book)

From me:
Lego Treehouse

I know Lego is sort of a toy but I feel as though there's only a year or two left where getting a toy for Christmas is a thing and that I should be able to think of a toy she'd love and would be exciting to open but I'm drawing a blank. Just something completely fun (whereas Lego and the Smart Games are quite brainy rather than pure fun).

The toys she plays with most at home are her train track (we've already got tons of brio) and then she sets up schools with her dolls and teddies (again, she already has enough of these and I definitely can't justify £100+ for the Our Generation school room). She spends a huge amount of time writing/making books.

Any ideas? Or is it typical at this stage to move away from toys?

Mine is 7 and her and her friends all seem to love Barbie. She has asked for the dream boat

What about an experience. When my daughter was 7 all she wanted was a boat trip so I took just her on a boat on the Thames and she loved it.

Does she have a blackboard/easel that she could incorporate into her school games? And maybe a hard back exercise book to use as a register, and a bell?
Could make a few school uniforms for the dolls/bears if you are creative. I most certainly couldn’t!! Build a Bear used to sell them, but would be expensive to buy more than one.

What about some sylvanian families?? Dd2 is 11 and still plays with hers. They have a little nursery or school room, or loads of other play sets she might like??

Dd2 also loves Playmobil still, so maybe a set there she might like??

My dd had grown out of toys by 6. All she wanted was crafts and books.

My DD is 6 and is getting Playmobil she loves small-world imaginary type play. If your DD is getting an atlas and horse game she might also like the new Wiltopia Playmobil? I've got my DD the treehouse and animals from their range as they're realistic and more unusual than the typical toy animals. They do also have schools and nurseries. I like that they don't take up loads of room in the house but inspire a lot of imaginary play. If you don't have them already I found the little open carriages for brio trains are brilliant as then little people can go places on the trains.

A little remote control car? Amazon have some of these. Great fun for playdates and some friendly havoc on Christmas day.

If she likes making her own books, what about an old fashioned printing set?
My children loved them.
Google
Melissa and Doug,
stamp a scene
fairy garden, farm, vehicles etc.

Other ideas:

Den building kit
Hexbug kit with a track or habitat
Potion making kit

TheOGSloth · 15/12/2023 17:13

Bookeez to make her own books.
Melissa and Doug do a school role play set but not sure if this would be too young for her.

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas here. I've gone with getting some school uniform for her Our Generation Doll. And toying with the idea of a remote controlled car for her birthday.
