Hi everyone,
I'm spending Christmas day in the company of a 3 year old boy, and his parents, none of whom I've met. I'd like to take a present for him, but have no idea what might be suitable as my son is now 26 so it's a while since I've bought for a little boy. Any suggestions as to what might be good? Up to £30 spend.
Thanks in anticipation

Hey, 3y/o love messy stuff - slime, play doh, any muck they can squish in their hands (us parents hate them but anything for a bit of quiet 🤣)
aside from that, it’s the age where kids generally have a fav character/s. I’d ask the parents what they’re in to, usually stuff like peppa, paw patrol, Toy Story - anything they watch on repeat. And there’s loads of inexpensive toys like that in the Entertainer (shop)

What about magnetic tiles, a playdoh set, Lego duplo (they have some age appropriate sets) at that age my (now 5) son loved hot wheels too!

TheBirdintheCave · 15/12/2023 10:53

Hot wheels cars would be a hit with my son as would a jigsaw or board game.

WTF99 · 15/12/2023 13:31

Fab ideas! Thanks so much 😊

My DS is three. He loves hot wheels. You can get loads of nice sets of cars and track sets for under £30. He also loves monster trucks

PurBal · 16/12/2023 20:26

Another vote for Magnatiles or Magformers.

Newuser75 · 16/12/2023 20:26

Hot wheels, duplo, books, play doh, bubbles?

TheScientists · 16/12/2023 20:28

Another vote for Magnatiles!

Sp1ke3 · 16/12/2023 20:30

When my son was that age his godfather bought him a fire engine. It was his favourite gift despite never having shown any interest up to that point. He still remembers it now.

AllTheWeatherAllTheTime · 16/12/2023 20:34

Probably not strictly what you're after but craft stuff like washable paints, a big roll of tinfoil, stickers etc, and a really good big cardboard box. Hand it over, tell him to decorate and fly off in his rocket ship and he should be occupied for a good couple of hours

ChilledToTheBone · 16/12/2023 20:36

Hot wheels. Dinosaurs.

Lemonademoney · 16/12/2023 20:38

Magnatiles are brilliant for this age. Another big hit with mine was a Melissa and Doug white/board easel type thing. They still use it now a few years on

kitchenSink5 · 16/12/2023 21:17

Any kind of toy vehicle or building blocks etc

Only buy messy stuff or noisy stuff if you never want to be invited back...

Sjh15 · 17/12/2023 07:23

My son is 2 but -
vehicles - diggers, garbage trucks, ambulance, monster trucks, cars. Anyrhing like that.
dinosaurs

anything along those lines. Anything messy depends where they live as we don’t have a garden so wouldn’t do anything too messy in here

Mew2 · 17/12/2023 08:40

I would gethim one of these types of toys
Learning Resources EI-4185 Design & Drill Bolt Buddies Pick, Recycling Truck, Fine Motor Skills Construction Toy, Multi-Color https://amzn.eu/d/dWOYygU

Sugarfree23 · 17/12/2023 08:46

Don't get him messy stuff, why give poor mum more work to do, clearing it up? That's what nursery / pre-school is for!

Hotwheels or duplo. Magnatiles work much better than magformers.

Pinky2023 · 17/12/2023 11:12

I would buy some thomas take n play , my son LOVED it I started when he was 18 months and he adores it for 5 years and I always knew I could buy more sets and trains . It’s also educational my son learned lots of numbers and colours too lol

Sugarfree23 · 17/12/2023 12:44

Is Thomas still popular?
My oldest now 13, but it just didn't seem to be a 'thing' for my LO now 7.

Op I think I'd stay away from character stuff unless you know they like the character. I'd stick with more general toys like Duplo or Magnatiles or hotwheels, then your not risking getting characters they don't like.

Lots of good ideas on this thread:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4953410-3yo-boy-who-has-everything

My suggestions would be
Duplo
Playdough
Colouring stuff
Orchard Toys game - shopping list is a hit with my 3yo

They're all easy wins IMO. Otherwise it might be a good idea to find out what he's into and/or what they already have.
