Wellies for men who wreck wellies

Marmaladegin · 13/12/2023 10:58

DH trashes wellies. Loves being outside, therefore needs new wellies. Because he goes through them, I cannot spend £200. I'm hoping for max £70. Any recommendations? Also, rigger boots... are they properly waterproof? Maybe they'd be a more cosy alternative...

I'd be tempted to buy him 3 pairs of cheapies...will probably last the same amount of time as 1 pair of £70.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/12/2023 11:00

Muck boots

CharlotteFlax · 13/12/2023 11:10

Expensive wellies are shit - you want the cheapest ones they do, that are all moulded in one boot shape and don't have the seams at the back which are what always perish and breach.

Diah · 13/12/2023 11:10

Came on to say Muck boots. I have bought them on offer though, not sure how much they are full price.

AreYouShittingMe · 13/12/2023 11:14

My husband has Muck Boots. Still going strong so far

SomethingBlues · 13/12/2023 11:15

Muck boots are great. I use mine daily and my husband uses his for fishing

muckandnettles · 13/12/2023 11:29

I've just bought some for my dh for Christmas and there's 15% off if you subscribe to their newsletter. I paid £106 for some arctic ankle wellies for him, so still pricey but I'm hoping it will be worth it. Also, I can't think of anything else to buy him!

NoCloudsAllowed · 13/12/2023 11:35

Wwould waterproof walking boots (maybe plus waterproof gaiters if he needs to keep calves dry?) be better?

Blixem · 13/12/2023 11:56

I got my DH these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C02XDJ6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have some Woodland ones which I've had for 5 years and I wear them all the time and they are still going strong, which is why I got them for DH as he's wreaked all previous ones but he's had these for a few years and they are still great.

crozzfit · 13/12/2023 11:57

Mine wears them every day (farmer). He has Barbour ones. Gets a new pair once a year

Bovrilla · 13/12/2023 12:17

See I am also of the view that some expensive ones really are worth it.

I have vibram soled Aigle Parcours and walk miles and miles in them. Worth every penny

Most farmers I know don't buy hunters. They might get Barbours, their £45 ones are the farmer's choices in my family.

Muck boots are good too, and comfy as.

If you're wanting warm too, then Deditos are the best thing ever. Pricey though.

Marmaladegin · 13/12/2023 16:41

Brilliant, thanks everyone- am sure I can find one of these ideas!

Shamelessly jumping on.

@crozzfit @Diah @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads
My DD needs some comfy lightweight safety wellie boots for wearing in a kennels. (Lightweight because she is petite and not v strong). Do you have recommendations?

Also crossfit any recommendations as to working overalls for a 5ft person? Thinking farmers kids must have them?! They all seem to come with 31inch legs which I can shorten to 26 but then the body section is too long.

crozzfit · 13/12/2023 17:44

Afraid I don't know @TeenDivided I only wear leather country boots as I find wellies rub my feet after a few hours. And don't wear boiler suits. Try a farm supplier store?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/12/2023 19:23

@TeenDivided - do you mean safety wellies as in having toe and sole protection? In 30 years on construction sites, I've never found any safety wellies that are "comfortable" although Dunlopss* aren't too bad. She'll be hard pressed to find safety wellies that are lightweight, and if her feet are smaller than a 5 or 6 she may struggle with size. The steel safety protection is heavy and cold! Genuine sheepskin insoles and long wool socks recommended (both available from Celtic and Co).

stargirl1701 · 13/12/2023 19:29

My DH goes through at least one pair a year (agriculture). He prefers neoprene boots. He sees it as a normal expense though because he does wear them virtually every single day.

TeenDivided · 13/12/2023 19:32

Thanks @crozzfit and @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads She has relatively lightweight safety lace up boots at the moment, and likes having the feeling her toes are protected but using dodgy hoses the water tends to get in. She is indeed only a size 4 shoes size too. So she may need to choose between the re-enforced toes and waterproofness.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 13/12/2023 19:48

Dh has got some neoprene ones from Mole Valley Farmers. Think they were around £70.

I've got some Muck knock offs that I got on a wet camping holiday in Wales years ago. They have lasted really well and are marvellous for my fat calves (but suspect that may not be an issue for your dh!).

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/12/2023 19:51

@TeenDivided Safety Muck Boots go down to a 4!

I find my Muck Boots a bit big for their size, but nothing that a good insole can't sort out.

CormorantStrikesBack · 13/12/2023 19:54

Dunlops. A lot of farmers have them. I wear dunlops, £10. They last nearly two years.

Cluckycluck · 13/12/2023 20:05

Muck boots or Dunlop. My Dunlops are still going strong after nearly 10 years of wear.

TeenDivided · 14/12/2023 08:28

@User202242 Thank you!

TeenDivided · 19/12/2023 16:17

@User202242 We bought the boots you linked. They are really nice. Unfortunately they are too big for DD, she is a size 3.5 really and I see from Muck's website they say to go down half a size if female rather than up. And they don't come in size 3 Sad. But thank you for the suggestion.
