Interactive gift/activity for 3 year olds

Hoping someone here will have an idea as u haven't had little children in a while!!
This year Christmas is being hosted at my in-laws but I've taken charge of organising. My niece has twins who are 3 and I've yet to get them a gift, neither had by parent in laws .
I'm hoping to get them something that will be interactive, to fill the 3/4 hours between church and dinner. They won't have any of their presents from home with them and I want to make sure they have a fun and magical time. I haven't had a chance to speak to my niece or even my brother and sister in law so hopefully someone here can suggest.
I want it to be something that while aimed at the little ones everyone else can join in on too. I know they are getting a dolls house, baby dolls, some dressing up clothes and a few crafts from their mum/grandparents and are quite girly girls.
Anybody have any ideas on a very interactive activity everyone can join in on with them and will keep them busy for a couple of hours? I have a good budget set aside and could get my in-laws to go in joint so price isn't relevant right now.
TIA

Crocodile dentist was a big hit at 3 in our house. Easy for adults to get involved too

Magic painting books or the melissa and doug wow water books or galt water magic books

A melissa and doug wooden jewellery making kit

Jigsaw puzzle. Orchard toys do some lovely ones

Playdough is also a big hit here and quite therapeutic for adults too

Baker Ross Christmas decorations kit of any variety. They do ones to make baubles/wreaths/other

Or you can find DIY snow globes

I'd get magnatiles. They are really fun and they're just the right age to get into them. But they're quite expensive so a good thing to club together on. They can build little houses for their dolls, my girls would build stables for their my little ponies.

Play dough (one of the elaborate sets eg cafe or hairdresser or dentist) or Lego (run Lego by their parents first, I think it’s really 4+ but my daughter and nephew had it at 3.5 and were absolutely fine with a little adult support - and there’s usually an adult happy to play with Lego!!)

My DS was 3.5 last year and got a marble run which kept him (and adults) amused for hours

If money is no object, you could get a play kitchen with toy veg and fruit etc.

Dd got given that for Xmas last year (age 2.5) and all the inlaws chipped in... PILs got the kitchen, SIL got breakfast set with toaster and apron, Aunt in law got toy veg, BIL got a coffee machine that takes real water. Etc.

It's still keeping her entertained a year on!

It probably all cost a fortune though

I'm pretty sure they already have a play kitchen, they have a full toy room so quite hard to buy for !!

I second this. Bought some for eldest DD's 2nd birthday after seeing how many Mumsnetters recommend them and now I get why - still equally loved at age 6 and probably the most played-with toy we have. I can also vouch for it being something that relatives of all ages love joining in with! You don't necessarily have to get the brand name tiles, we got some really good quality one from Amazon. I do recommend buying 2 or more sets though - 1 doesn't go far.

Would also recommend magnatiles! My DS6 still loves them and has asked for a top up set. My boys got them when they were about 2 or 3 and they have had such longevity

3 year olds only play with anything for 5 mins 🤣

But mine liked role play stuff. Tea set, shopping...mini produce/till

bananamangoes · 11/12/2023 09:31

What about one of those giant/paper houses from Hobbycrsdt?

you build it, they colour it in
