Teenage son just wants money. How can I dress that up?

His siblings all want gifts but he says there's absolutely nothing he wants. He's got a phone, a PC, he's not interested in any other consoles. He does notwant any gadgets.

He suggested I use his budget to buy his siblings extra presents 😭😭

He's finally agreed to have money so he can buy something in his own time but I'm just imaging Xmas morning with everyone else opening gifts and he's just got an envelope.

TBH everyone's got a small pile this year as they're all older and want more expensive things.

Can’t you get a few novelty gifts and put tenner in each novelty thing. Eg a tenner inside a mug or rolled up with some socks. So he’s “opening” his money gift?

What would he use the money for?

One year, one of my daughters wanted money for clothes. I bought some Barbie clothes and put them in a little box with a card that said we had transferred the money into her account. The wrapped box went under the tree, like a normal present.

Could you do something like this?

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 09/12/2023 22:24

Can you get a few different sized empty boxes and put different amounts in each box?

Tippitippitapthatrotisseriechicken · 09/12/2023 22:24

Buy a really nice card based on a hobby of his and stick the cash in it. Keep it simple.

I would do the box in a box thing. Wrap up 5 or 6 different sized boxes and then put them all inside one another with the money in the smallest one. Maybe put a chocolate bar between each box.

Mine both want money because they want to use it for travelling (one Asia, one for a ski trip). I'm doing them both a treasure hunt, with clues based on where they're travelling to. The final clue will be a box of money and some travel essentials.

I would have some fun with it. One year I blew up balloons and rolled £5s into each of them then put them in a big Santa sack.
or you could give him it in all different denominations, one box with lots of pound coins, one of those quiz boxes the other posters suggested. Although is there definitely nothing he wants or needs, selection box, pjs, shampoo, a book?

Emily Norris just posted a YouTube short video about money as a gift with a really cool idea for presenting it

I would wrap up consumables and things he needs through the year rather than wants, to go with the money. Deodorant, shower gels, socks, electric toothbrush? Favourite biscuits, chocolate, sweets, snacks. Does he not like snacks? Surely every teenager likes snacks. Bulk buy his favourites. Make him a hamper. Last year I got my teenager a snack subscription box with snacks and sweets and a drink from around the world that you can't get in the UK delivered each month. I wrapped up the first one to put under the tree.

My DS got money for his 16th birthday. A local lady makes a balloon in a box. Once the box is untied, the helium balloon rises and the money is attached to the ribbon and all is revealed. It was great fun!

inmyheadimthequeen · 09/12/2023 23:19

User 3735 can I ask for more info on the snacks box please?

I'm going to do this. Toiletries and snacks with cash.

Thanks.

A lovely uncle of DC once gave them money for Christmas, inside a puzzle with a secret drawer. They opened it and were confused. It looked like a block of wood. They played around with it and eventually the drawer sprung open and there were banknotes were inside.
