Teach Christmas Magic

Looking for inspiration... I always try to teach the spirit of Christmas to my children. (kindness, helping others, coming together kind of thing)

I have previously done baking for the neighbors, doing a shop for the food bank, donating their old toys, making cards, helping with local events instead of just attending them.

I am looking for more ideas this year.

Money is a lot tighter this year plus it's my first as a single parent.

My eldest is 6 and has always had a good attention span and happy to do the above things. My youngest is 3 and to be honest has the attention span of a newt so gets bored easily.

(I know the youngest won't fully understand this year but I've done these acts of kindness since my eldest was 1 and I feel it's given her good character traits in doing so.)

You could do caring for the world around you - picking up litter from the street or park, feeding birds, looking at reusing/recycling things you already have to make decorations etc. An environmentally friendly Christmas can also be a good way of making frugality more exciting.

Oh the litter picking is a good idea. So is the making gifts idea as we are already making cookies etc in place of gifts thanks to money being so tight.

I like the environmental suggestions...litter picking and making homemade birdfeeders for the garden?

Could they make and decorate a card of thanks to give to your postie/delivery driver? Being appreciated by small children would definitely brighten their day.

e.g. https://www.easypeasyandfun.com/cotton-balls-penguin-craft/
(Easy for the 3-yr-old to stick on the cotton wool balls quickly!)

Maybe with something like one of these (no cooking required)?
(Obviously tweak ingredients to fit budget).

Snowman chocolate bark for a sweet Winter and Christmas treat.

And good for you, OP, for doing it since the eldest was young.
