Just doing some meal planning and looking for inspiration for xmas eve and boxing day meals. There will be toddler, me and DH. Toddler eats what we do and is a good eater so will eat a variety of foods. There are No allergies.

Im an ok cook but don’t want anything that takes hours unless it’s in the slow cooker. Want something special but that doesn't take hours. 1 hour prep time max and for lunch even less.

Need lunch and dinner ideas.

Christmas Eve we do afternoon tea - homemade scones with jam and cream, lebkuchen, treacle tart, sandwiches, cheese puffs, mini cupcakes , macarons...but there will also be samosas and bhajis, chicken pakora and little sausages for ds2 who will put up with the doilies and tea set ds1 insists on "as long as there's meat". We'll watch a movie while we eat and it'll be out for a few hours so people can graze.

Boxing Day - full fry-up in the morning with bubble and squeak. Then a big buffet with a cold pork joint, gala pie, cold turkey, salami, huge cheeseboard, pickles and chutneys and salads etc. I look forward to it almost as much as Christmas dinner!

I’d like to do an afternoon tea this year. One meal will be a takeaway. One will be a buffet probably two meals for ease and speed. Making pizzas is popular so will probably do that as well

LittleMrsPretty · 07/12/2023 17:06

Afternoon tea is a great idea, Ive bought DD some dolls and a highchair for them so she would love having her new dolls at afternoon tea on boxing day!!

Christmas Eve is usually normal food. So I'll make a homemade pie or something along those lines (or homemade pizza nom, nom).

Boxing Day I'm doing a beef wellington with leftovers from Christmas day.

Traditional German Christmas eve simple supper here - potato salad, lamb lettuce salad with mustard vinaigrette and either wieners or chipolata type grilled sausages. It's when presents get opened too (after dusk, right along with the first lighting of the tree) so it's fantastic to spread things out a bit and not worry about the big feast till the 25th. Our potato salad goes back to my great-gran and is an outlier, not sliced but a grated potato salad with mustard, grated onions and beef broth (ok we cheat and add a bit of mayo too.) Seriously delish and needs to be made two days ahead for best flavour so immensely practical.

Boxing day same as others, leftovers. Over the years we've moved towards a been roast for Christmas dinner, so usually cold slices of that, and whatever veggies are left.

That potatoe salad sounds great.

think I have decided on salmon wellingtonand roast pot and veg for Xmas eve and afternoon tea for boxing day.

I don't plan meals for xmas eve or Boxing Day to be honest. This year we are at MILs for Boxing Day. Xmas Eve no idea. Xmas Day we aren't having a big lunch as it is just us and noone cares enough to do all the cooking so we are having a huge cheeseboard to share. My favourite bit of Christmas is eating all the cheese!

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/12/2023 22:48

One of our very few takeaways of the year on Christmas Eve (curry) then Turkey/gammon and pigs in blankets and roasties Christmas Day and cold cuts/smoked salmon/cheese and biscuits on Boxing Day. And lots of crisps 😁

CrapBucket · 07/12/2023 22:50

Cheese and crisps mainly! I am glad not to be hosting but sad not to have leftovers…
